MMM's on the way, what else do i need?

AS the title says the MMM is in the mail, next will be Nue motor and some batteries, from there i need to know what else is necessary to run this combo in an e-revo. I know i need a pinion/s, but am unsure what to buy, i here and see guys running mod1 pinions, does this require changing the spur of the revo? Also what do i need to hook up the ESC to the motor and batts? will traxxas high current connectors suffice or should i use something else?

Thanks

also do nue motors need some sort of a cover to prevent dirt and debris from getting inside and causing damage?

you need to pray for not failed mmm :)

shizzon 08.31.2008 03:56 AM

I just did a build up of an E-revo with the new 1512 2d/f and I used Novak 5mm bore 32 pitch pinions. The stock spur is 68t and you can get the 65t and 62t to vary your gearing. I had to grind a flat spot on the end of the 5mm motor shaft to accept the pinion set screw. You will need an external bec with 4 cells and above or you can disable the positive wire from the esc to the rx and run an rx battery. I chose this route since I run a single servo and the 5 cell pack sits nicely in the empty servo bay and balances out the chassis up front. I run a shrouded 80mm 12v van over the motor and esc with 14.8 volts running to it blowing upwards with filter foam over the inlet to keep dirt out. I made a cradle from g10 fiber glass that looks something like a mini savage chassis with a ledge to hold the fan. It acts as a roll bar for the fan and esc. I shrouded every thing with curtains of rubber roofing membrane attached to the fan with velcro and the servo tray is vented under neath the esc tray for the air inlet. I t all sounds like over kill but this truck will be raced in dusty conditions and I am using the MM esc. This set up is giving me great temps at 120 degrees fo rthe esc, 110 for the motor and my batteries are barely getting past ambient air temps. I got the esc up to 150 on a very dusty slippery track on a 90 degree day with an unvented body so it works.

Disregard the above post, those mods are only "needed" on a Mamba Max "MM" esc and not required on the Monster MMM
For the pinions Mike sells them here
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...nion5mm&cat=40
or you could use Novak, Robinson or Century
I don't have an E-Revo (yet) but I'd imagine as long as you keep your slipper functional 32p gears are fine. You can always upgrade if needed.

Information passed on in a gentlemanly manner is what I was trying to do. Can the MMM be run with complete disreguard to the above information...I have seen two of the V2,s go up in smoke and one of them just shut down in the past 7 days. You mentioned switching to a different pitch of spur gear, if needed but you didnt mention how, what parts fit or any details of a spur that mates up to the E-Revo trans to use what ever other pitch you are talking about. You information requires more information but thanks anyway.

Crazy, you should also mention that if hacking the case adding fans or adding a ubec (on thee board) you would void the warranty

Sorry if I some how offended you, just didn't want shizzon thinkin he needed all these mods on his brand new MMM

As for the gears I have no idea what works or not, I've read in some posts a mod1 gear that fits. Maybe try a search.

BTW My MMM smoked too after 2 mins, Bec failure new one on the way. It seems like luck of the draw but no doubt Castle will get things worked out.

I was trying to let all you experienced guys know that we newbies need help with this, detailed help. I also know that it gets tiring for people to answer the same questions over and over again and that is why I do searches. When they work it is great but most of the time the searches just dont do it unless you hit the correct key word. Sometime we find conflicting information and we have to ask. So that is why I give as much information as possible and let the person sift through what they may be able to use.
