Slayer w/E-Revo Tranny?
So I’m planning a Slayer conversion (who isn’t right) and am wondering if the chassis can be modified to fit an E-revo tranny? I’d like to ditch the mechanical brakes and loose the brake servo but would need a reverse capable tranny to do it.
We know the E-revo & new E-maxx (3905) tranny is the same (aka single speed/2nd-gear w/reverse). And we know the nitro-Slayer and nitro-Revo tranny is the same. So the question is; can a new E-maxx/E-revo tranny be mounted on a nitro-Revo (and therefore Slayer) chassis? Anybody know? I've searched but so far can only find old-style E-maxx tranny conversions on Revo chassis... :mdr: |
You can do it with the stock tranny. Just lock it in second (see sticky in revo forum) and you will be able to use motor braking and reverse.

You can do the mod to fit the 3905/erevo tranny in the nitro chassis, but to me it looks dodgy, either that or I never understood the thread explaining exactly how to doit, and noone ever answered/commented when I brought up my confusion. If the front/rear is the same could you just use the e-revo chassis?

Thanks all...
I’ve decided to stick with the slayer tranny with RCM mount and lock it into 2nd instead. It’s already FOC so just need to perform the actual lockout. Also planning on using the “wide-ratio” 2nd gear (38t) combine with the smaller 36t spur and a larger pinion (18-20t). Using Brian’s calc, looks like the relatively small 2.2 tire is going to need some much higher gearing to get the speeds up (compared to the big monster truck tires). I have a Nue-1512/2.5d not being used that I’ll throw in there but even at 2050k on 4S, combined with this longer gearing, and it’s still only estimated at 25mph (according to the calc). I’ll give this a try and if not quick enough I may need to step up to a higher kv motor (like a 1515/1.5d or similar). |
2k Kv should be good maybe at 20-22T/36. I think stock ratio is wide? Also TRX changed the transmission ratio for the smaller tires so Brian G's Calc might not have that ratio available yet. I popped in a 7xl, 2400kv, at 20/38 on 4s this weekend and it's pretty crazy.

^Oh that’s good to hear. I too have a 7xl I can throw in there and get some additional RPM (at the cost of running hot).
I was going off Brian’s info in the calc-tool, but it says the std 2nd gear is 39t with the narrow being 40t and the wide being 38t. I ordered the 38t one. I’ll double check what’s in there before installing it by counting the teeth. Which mount are you using; RCM or Impakt? |
Don't forget, "2.2" is the rim size, not the overall tire size.
|
^Ahhh crap!
Noob mistake  So what’s the diameter of the Slayer tires, anybody know? |
It's about 4.3", I think.
|
lol, that'll make a huge difference!
|
Ah ha: They're the same style/size as Slash:
SPECS: Outside diameter: 111mm (4.37") Width: 45mm (1.77") Inside diameter: 53.4mm (2.10") Hex Size: 12mm |
They aren't quite the same though - the Slayer wheels have a larger ID at the inner-most part of the wheel because they have to clear the Revo knuckles. And I they should also have a 14mm hex.

xcntrx: RCM Mount. My Finned Feigo 7xl got up to 150F, 120f on MM. Not too bad IMO. No 1st gear & motor brake will add to the heat tho. Driving last night I never hit top end in about 400 feet or so. It was shifting at around 40% throttle and flying at 80%. Let me know how it goes for ya.
