How To: LS10/center diff mod
 

All you need is a Crt.5 center diff and one spare 84mm dogbone (the ones that go from the diffs to the wheels)

the first pics shows a comparison of the 54t slipper assembly vs the 46t crt.5 diff. In the second picture youll notice you need to drill two new lower front diff upright mount holes...they will need to be moved about 6mm to the rear, dont forget to counter sink the bottom, youll also need to make a new top plate with the front mount hole 6mm back. now you can bolt the diff right inplace using the stock 83mm rear dogbone in the front and by using a 84mm dogbone to the rear(3rd picture) and the last picture shows the final install look.

and walla this takes away the big handling edge a crt.5 has over a ls10 and it also is MAJOR help in making the rear dogbones last longer, that direct drive slipper was HARD on the rear dogbones as most people already know......jsut add some captured rod ends, a front 1/8 buggy shocks all around and the LS10 is a whole new truck.

You didn't really need to do that, Hot bodies makes a center diff for the 1/10 cars and trucks. it comes standard for the lightning 10 buggy

but the distance between the mounts is different on that also and besides HB parts are getting HARD get for that car if you can even find them anywhere...

crt.5 stuff on the other hand is everywhere, i picked up that complete center diff for $20 off fleabay

crazyjr is right, the lightning 10 buggy center diff fits perfectly on the LS10. I know because I've owned both the buggy and LS10.

I liked the crt.5 diff better because its beefier :lol:
So, I found a much easier way to mount a crt.5 diff to the LS10. You'll need an extra diff mount and the 83mm dogbone. Just take off the front diff mount and attach another diff mount to it by screwing the two front mounts together through the brake screw holes. You can also add another screw if you're worried about flex but I found it worked just fine and was a perfect fit.
You'll still need the longer dog bone but you won't have to drill or measure any new holes on the chassis.

good idea with using another diff mount as a spacer i realized it moved back the width of one mount perfectly but didnt even think of using a spare as a spacer.

i could never find any parts for the lightning 10 buggy (mainly the shock towers and center diff) and from the pictures i thought the buggy center was shorter just like the crt.5 so my bad crazyjr.

Check with Mike as he may be able to get you parts for the LS10 and LB10.
If not, feebay, ultimatehobbies and amain are good resources.

For the gear (name?) on the outside of the differential. Are the different sizes that can be used? Like differnt size spurs.


James I installed the one you had with the LS10 and it's working great. Is it the crt .5 diff or the ls10?

The spur I sent you is the crt.5 diff. I'm not aware of any other size spurs for the crt.5 other than the stock 46T. The kyosho plastic spurs fit the diff but the bearing size is different.

Maybe someone could get the Monster to make a 2mm aluminum shim for the 10x15mm bearing? :whistle:
