Any possible way of mounting 48 pitch spurs on the crt.5? Dont want to run mod1

Anybody know if there is a way to mount a 48 pitch spur up to the crt.5 center diff? I have literally a boat load of 48 pitch pinions (about 30 of them from my traxxas rustler brushless projects over the years!) and would like to use them (as opposed to spending 15 bucks per pinion for mod 1 which I dont have any of).

I saw in a few old threads somebody did a conversion with a kyosho spur, was this a 48 pitch? I am assuming it was as the guy mentioned it made it easier to get pinions.

Any help is appreciated!

48p on the CRT.5 isn't a good idea IMO. It would strip out too easily. 32p would be the smallest tooth I would even consider using, but unfortunately there aren't any premade options out there for bolting such a spur up to the stock center diff.

The Kyosho spur gears are also mod1. In the case of that thread, it was during a time when hardened steel mod1 gears were not so easy to come by - so having a plastic spur gear made it much easier to get a pinion that wouldn't wear out in a few runs.

ahhh, gotcha. Thanks for all the info! I guess I just have to bite the bullet and get a mod1. I think I will just try a small one first to see where my speed/heat lays and then order a couple more based on what I find.

If you do geta plastic spur, check out the century pinions. They're $8.

Where do I find the century pinions? I take it they are not hardened?

How long do non-hardened pinions last against a steel spur on 3s in a crt.5? I would think it would be ok if the mesh is always in spec, as the crt.5 is a relatively small/light truck.

Non hardened pinion will last only a few packs - Not worth bothering with against a metal spur.

True...

I modded a crt.5 spur to accept a modded hpi 47t plastic spur. I just could not stand the noise of steel on steel. Still need to get the plastic spurs machined correctly, but my hand made prototype is still in service...

This could be done with a decent sized 32p spur, would have to be at least the same diamter as the 46t mod1 spur.

WHY?

Sensitive ears...

Then get a mod1 plastic spur.
