New Jammin crt .5 motor question

Hey I got a Jammin crt .5 pro on the way and I want to use my mamba max and 2s Orion lipos in it. I plan to keep it stock and use the monster mount with a home made battery box. I want to use a 5mm shaft motor so I can use the pinions I have and I really like the 36-60-2000 motor in 4s buggy.

Would a Medusa 36-50-4300 motor be good with this battery speedo combination? Please advise

It should be pretty good as long as you're geared for around 25-30mph. If you want faster speeds, I'd go with 3s and the 3300 (or thereabouts) motor.

I assume you mean the 36-50-4800. I run a Novak 1/10 6.5 (6400kv) on 2S and it runs great geared 46/12 and 4" 2.2 truck tires. When it's cool or I use 3.5" 2.2 buggy tires I can run it 46/13 no problem. As beefy as the Medusa motors are compared to my super light Novak I think you will be able to gear it to at least 40 with no problems. I think a 15T would be a good place to start, or a 14T if you don't need that much speed.

I've run the 36-50-3300 on 2, 3 & 4s and it runs great...

yes I do mean the 36-50-4800 on 2s:lol:

I'm running the Medusa 36-50-4800-5mm on 2s and love it. Gearing for mid-upper 30's it handles it without a problem. I use a 15t ( for some reason on other posts I beleive I may have been saying 19t but it's a 15) with stock tires and I have an 11t I use for running some bigger slash tires. I'm running MA 6000mah 2s packs and get 20-25 minutes of mostly full speed runs. After the first pack I do need to let it cool a little, motor is fine at 125* but esc gets a bit warmer, around 170* after a long hard run. I'm running a MM with no mods, no fan, and using the internal BEC.

I'm a bit surprised that your MM is heating up with just a 15T on stock buggy tires. The rule of thumb is (Hot ESC and Batteries + Cool motor = Overgeared). How's your battery temp?

I run my E-CRT.5 with Novak GTB & 6.5 setup at our local indoor track and my buds large back yard track. I definitely pull a good bit of throttle throughout the track, but not the same as WOT speed runs. Mine can get hot when it's over 90 degrees outside and I run the 2.2 truck tires with the 13T pinion, but otherwise it runs great. I'm certain I don't have nearly the torque that the Medusa has, so I'd expect the Medusa to pull that 15T easily.

Must remember that I'm using no external bec which doesn't help with the heat. Batteries are between 110-115* I have minimal cooling holes in the body also. Those temps where when I was running the 11t with slash tires and going through a lot of grass, big load on the esc. When running blacktop everything is plenty cool with either tire, I haven't checked actual temps because nothing felt overly warm. I only check temps if I can't grab ahold of it and hold it, and I'm not talking the rule of if you can touch it for more than a couple seconds, I mean actually hold it and not bother me at all! Thats mostly due to 11 years of working in kitchens, I can grab things that would burn most people.

On 2s, using the MM's BEC doesn't matter. The difference in voltage (7.4v vs 6v) is low enough that there is little heat at the current the servo is pulling, especially on a small truck. Actually, UBEC can be LESS efficient on 2s because of the low voltage differential. Anything higher than 2s though, and the switching BEC have a clear advantage.
