Setup questions - Losi 8 conversion
Hey, guys.
So I have a Losi 8ight with a standard 4s conversion. RC-Monster motor mount MMMv2 Neu 1512/2D/F 4S 5000MAh packs http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3064/...d60d56c569.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3088/...2f27b10ddc.jpg The question is - where's a good place to start with setup? It's heavier than the nitros so I assume the base setup for an electric would be a bit different than the nitros. Where's a good starting point for: 1. Springs 2. Diff oil 3. Shock oil Right now I'm using a common nitro setup: Front shock spring/piston/oil: 4.4 Silvers/54/40 Rear shock spring/piston/oil: 3.1 Greens/55/35 Front/center/rear diff oils: 5000/7000/2000 I generally run on large, outdoor tracks that are medium/bumpy and range from dusty to moist (depending). I do not run on smooth bluegroove indoor stuff at all. Ticket tires are bowties and crimefighters. Thanks, guys. -Jeff |
i went 5wt thicker in oil all around and 7/10/5 in the diffs... haven't run it much but it handles well... i started with the nitro setup as well... mine is a little heavier than yours though, i'm using 5s 5000 TP V2's

I am currently using 5/10/2 in the diffs. Was hoping to play around with the shock/suspension setup this week but wasn't planning on being sick and it raining. Don't see many 8ight running around with different springs rather than silver front and green rear

Have you found another other setups Jeff?
Mine seems soft (mainly in the front) and most people are telling me to go stiffer springs |

Not really.. I'm just stiffening everything up a notch to compensate for the extra weight. changing diff fluids from 5/7/2 to 7/10/5 changed shock fluids from 30 to 35 in rear and from 35 to 40 in front. Thin sway bar in rear.. none in front. It's notibly stiffer all around. The springs however, seem like they may be a good fit. If you ran on a smoother track you could go with one step heavier springs but mine is a bit rough so I think they'll work well actually. It never handled poorly - I just wondered if anyone's found an optimum setup. I plan to be running the Proline BowFighter tires (bowties in the rear for forward grip, crimefighters in the front for high side bite). I have a race on the 20th but I won't be able to test it on a track until then. Anyone else have any input on setups? :) -Jeff |
I noticed on the 8E that it comes with Silver springs on front and green in the rear (standard on roller/kit) and have the top shock mounted in middle and on inside on the bottom. Not sure on what piston/oil though. I had a guy tell me that he uses 55 pistons all round (the kit does but the roller has 54 in front) and runs 40wt oil all round (40wt front on roller/35wt front kit - 25wt rear roller/35wt wt rear kit). Might try that setup a go. Have to wait for my ride height gauge to arrive to be able to measure the ride height
