Losi EC5 Connectors
 

After looking through the Losi 8E roller thread I went looking and found these:

The are basically a bigger version of the ec3 connectors and I like the looks of them.

My questions are:

Are these connectors any good? I'm kind of sick of deans, they are too small and difficult to solder for me when using the 10ga wire.

Also has anyone tried these with the 10ga wire? Will the 10ga fit into them? They are either 5 or 5.5mm bullets so someone should know if 10 gauge will fit into that.

If no one has tried them I'm willing to give them a go.

Edumakated switched to these a couple weeks ago and seems to really like them so far. Ive seen them on his buggy and actually did do some soldering on one of them for him so yes the MMM wires fit on/in them.

I was acutally considering switching to the same thing, but I did the math on what it would cost to switch everything I had over to these connectors and came out with an estimate of around $200. Ouch.... Needles to say I stuck with the deans I have. But I certainly agree with you, they look nice.

If you try them let us know what you think.

They seem nice, but being at $7 a pair I can't justify switching to them. I may switch over to bullets though.

They are pricey. I didn't really consider that until I went to buy some. I'm just going to use them on my 1/8th stuff and keep using deans on the smaller stuff. I'll make some ec5 to deans adapters as well but I won't need them much.

I will definately let you know how they go. Is EC5 a standard or just something horizon hobbies uses?

I switched from Dean's to TRX connectors and really like them. They fit the 10 gauge wire fine and are easy to solder and easy to plug/unplug.

Traxxas plugs are too big IMO.

+1 on Traxxas plugs. They're not that big, I even used them on my RC18T

What would be the best is if castle came out with a plastic case for there 6.5mm bullets. Overkill for basically everything but it would be handy.

The trx plugs don't look bad and seem to have some advantages over the deans. The ec5s though really look like they could carry a lot more current (could be a bad thing) then the deans and trx plugs so I'll give them a try. I'm sure I won't notice a difference just piece of mind and a little easier on the fingers while soldering.

-1 on Traxxas plugs and +1 on Deans. I've assembled a good number of the Traxxas plugs at work and although I can do it well, I still prefer Deans.

Well I got the EC5 plugs and love them. I think they would be too big for anything smaller then 1/8th but for 1/8th they are great. The spark is so much less scary when you plug these together too (only benefit not already mentioned). You just see the glow though the blue plastic for a fraction of a second. They can be a bit of a challenge too unplug though. It's hard to explain but it is easy to grab them in the wrong place and sit there pulling in vain.

I recently changed my Deans plugs to these and the are much easier to solder and plug/unplug. MTB I agree they take a little getting use to when unplugging. Just curious and not really a big deal but did you use red(+) or Black(-) on the square side of the plug. I used red for square black for round

The plugs I have, have plus and minus on the marked on the blue casing. So I have it the way it is marked. I can't remember which way that is though.

Edit: positive on the square side. Just looked at a picture of them.
