motor for emaxx on 3s ??

hey ,

i have an emaxx 16.8 with the flm chassis ......, and im looking for a new brushless motor for it , im looking for speeds of 37-40+mph on 3s lipo without overheating , should i get the 9l , 6xl , or 7xl , the gearing i have r 20t , 24t pinion and 62 , 65 , 68 spur ?or suggest any other motors but the max im willing to pay is 60 - 75$ for a motor.

thanks

Just based on your $, a 10L or 9L fiego would be your best bet. I run a 10L in one of my set ups, and it runs just over 40 without heat issues.

What ESC are you running?

im using the mamba max esc

I wish you luck moving a MT @ 40MPH on 3s without overheating! At the very least your putting a huge strain on the batteries, lots of amps at 11.1V. Second all those amps are going to heat up the esc. Lastly the motor is going to have to be a high KV to spin fast enough on 3s to get you to that speed which means more heat, higher kv means more amps! Moster trucks, even a plastic based 3905 Maxx is still a bit heavy to run anything less than 4s.....just my opinion and $0.02

yes , i thought of that , the only reason i want to use 3s is because all i have r 3s lipos and i am buying a new tx/rx so i wont have money to buy a 4s lipo so i thought y not run it on 3s , wats the max speed that i can get it to go with 3s without overheating or by taking breaks each 10 min or so ?

thanks

on 3s I wouldn't expect more than 30 out of it before you have heat issues

I dont believe that to be true. I consistently ran my 10L using six cell nimh's (3300's and 4200's) in 40mph range without overheating. Done the same with the HV-Maxx 4.5's.

10l and 6 cell NiMh can approach 40MPH in a rustler or similar, maybe, but in a 10+lb monster truck? I'm sorry but did you see that he's trying to do this in an E-MAXX? Some people have trouble keeping temps in check on 4s with an xl sized motor in an MT, I really don't see how it's possible with a smaller motor and less voltage, IMHO!

What 3s lipos do you have? You should look at running 2 of the packs in parallel and double the MAH and their output capability. It would certainly make it easier for the batteries to keep up and not get over stressesd/heated.

I did it in my Revo, so I'd think it would work in an Emaxx. I guess I'd better clarify - that was with two six cell packs - standard Emaxx config. When I had mine set up, I heard a lot of people complaining about overheating the L cans all the time also, so I kept an extra close eye on it too. Maybe I didn't supply enough juice to it to get it hot!

I run it right now with two 2S2P A123 packs, and its in the range of 40.

12 cells is abit different to 6 cells, and is a bit different to 3s lipo, is abit different to 4s lipo. I wouldnt run an MT on 3s lipo; the VXL system can manage abot 30mph before heat issues start, so perhaps if you choose a ~3500kv L can motor for your MM to run on with 3s lipo, you;d have similar results.

I have enough experience with Maxx trucks on 3s LiPos that run 40+mph. And I can say that it is very hard to do. You must drop a ton of weight and gear properly. I was able to keep my temps in check but others have had very different results. I run a VXL system on a single 3s LiPo to exceed 40mph. My V-Twin runs in far excess of 50mph on a pair of 3s packs in parallel. Here is a video of my light weight 3906 E-Maxx on a Venom 5400mAh(junk) LiPo. I have hundreds of videos so if you want another, just ask.

Tempted has done it but if you want something reliable and less of a headache I'd go higher. You said Lipos Why don't you use two packs 6s?

RUSTED 10.02.2008 11:10 AM

6s would be too much power for me , i dont have an esc that handles 6s and i dont want to replace diffs each time or have to buy the hybrid bulks and1/8 diffs , right now im using a 10 l on 3s its goes about 30mph but i need like 5 - 10 mph more , right now im tryn to make the e maxx more raceable and bought alot of parts including a new transmitter heres the link http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7993686/tm.htm so i dont the the money to buy a new motor so ill be running the 10 l for now , but will a single or twin vxl be better???

lincpimp 10.02.2008 11:16 AM

The 10l is better than a vxl motor...
