Just ordered a new computer!

I have spent the last three weeks looking for a computer for my room. I was constantly checking dell.com for deals when I saw one I couldn't pass up.

Long story short, I got $573 off a Dell XPS 420 with a 22" Ultrasharp, built in TV Tuner, and a set of decent speakers.

Specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2.4gHZ, 8mb Cache
Vista Home Premium
4gb DDR2 SDRAM
500gb 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
16x CD/DVD Burner
Dell 22" Ultrasharp LCD Monitor
ATI Radeon HD3650 Graphics Card
SoundBlaster Audigy Sound Card
Dell A525 Speakers
Media Card Reader w/Bluetooth
TV Tuner

It should get here sometime next week!

I'll post pics when I get it!

Looks like a decent machine for what you probably paid for it. Only problem I see is the "D-E-L-L" on the front of the case!

I am somewhat bias as I had issues with an Inspiron 5100 laptop a few years back. The HDD would crash about once a month and I had to wait 2 weeks to have a replacement shipped to me. :grrrrrr: I guess they figure (as more and more companies are doing these days) that you can sell low-quiality stuff so long as it has a good warranty. Again, this is IMO.

I'd like to see the pics when you get it. Do you have any case mods planned for it? I know Dell doesn't offer CCFL light or anything like that...

Nice machine, should last you a long time. :)

Well with Vista 32bit you are only going to see about 3.25gb of that ram and you won't be doing any overclocking with a dell but normally pretty good value machines.

Should have got a good deal as the q6600 is being phased out.

I'm a complete computer novice so I don't really plan on mods. My parents paid for this, so I dont want to do something wrong and ruin it. However, I might upgrade the graphics card to an ATI Radeon HD4850 if the 3650 isnt enough.

Thats too bad you had a bad experience with Dell. We bought a Dimension 2400 5-6 years ago and it has never had any problems. It still runs fine today, its what Im using right now. This is why I wanted another Dell.

I was also looking at a Razer Lycosa keyboard and a Lachesis mouse, anyone have experience with them?

Dell???

Yea we have two DELL PC's at our house as well (1 laptop & 1 tower PC), and I am not very impressed with them. Their PC's are ok for what you pay for them, but they put so much junk software in them and a lot of their stuff is outdated and slow. Their warrenties are ok, although they are sticklers about what is in writing :rules:so their customer service sucks:whip:. I prefer HP since they have the best customer service in the world. I found an HP digital camera laying in a pool of water a couple years back and sent an email to HP asking what could be done with it. A week later I received a brand new replacement for it, and returned the wet one to them FREE:party:. I have used HP ever since and have been extremely happy with their product line and the way they treat their customers:yes:. Good luck with your DELL though.
