anyone out there do annodizing?
 

hey guys soon i will be ordering a bunch of aluminum parts and it would be sweet for them to be all black aluminum.

couple questions.

-can you annodize any color to black? (for example... chrome to black? purple to black?)
-if the item is used will it be ok? (aarms have usual wear and tear)
-how expensive is it?
-does this stuff last?

if anyone here can do it or knows someone who can let me know!

The parts must be stripped and cleaned back to bare metal, you cant just change the colour of parts.

Used parts are fine, but again, they must be cleaned and preferably have an even finish to get good results.

Very, for single parts. It is done by the batch/ basket load (literally) in a large tank, so the more parts you get done at the same time (in the same colour), the cheaper it works out per part.

Lasts forever, or until you damage the parts and scratch the surface. Just take a look at some scratched up integy or gpm skids etc for an idea of how damage effects the finish.

the stripping and reanodizing, changes dimentions on the part, ie screws wont fit as nice as they did before.

ever considered doing it yourself, its not that hard, if you buy some basic chemicals and use a lipo charger or some crap like that. LINK also addicted2rc.com will annodize for you and some others, search it in here and traxxas

i know plenty of places who can do it but i figured maybe someoene on here does it for some extra cash.

doesnt that look sweet to do, Id love to try it, I have so many fish tanks not being used. I can just see the papers though " dude found in 75 gallon fish tank anodized green"

Lol, I dont think fish tanks would be much good- the setups I've seen all use a big metal trough, with gas burners underneath to heat the liquid.
