Contemplating a Losi 8ight, any thoughts.

I am thinking about converting a 8ight and I have found a roller.
(Finding a suitable roller isnt that easy in Sweden, this one will set me back about 300 USD)
I would really appreciate it if someone could have a look and let me know what you think.
Pics here: http://themax.se/rc/Losi%208ight-peter/

The buggy is the Race version and was bought new before summer 2008 and have been raced.
All bearings are new and also ackerman (whatever that is...) there is also a alu servo saver.

The plan is to use a 8XL (or 9XL) on 4S and MM.
I hope the 8XL will be better off in an 8ight then in my Revo (tends to run hot).
I might also have a Medusa 36-60-2000 to choose from but that is currently planned for my Revo.
All help/ideas are welcome.

Looks like a great / fun project you've got there, I don’t own a 8ight so can’t say anything about them. It does look like you will need to swap out the front left and rear right arm though.. (looks cracked and bent ?). I have heard that the 8x & 9x do run hot so just watch your gearing, the medusa sounds like a better application thou

Of course you'll need to completely strip her down, wash and de-sanitize her if you ever hope the get the Nitro smell off it. LOL.LOL.. hours of enjoyment!.. :na:

Again looks like a great project, please keep us updated it’s status..

Have a great week and thanks for showing your latest badboy!..

The 8ight is a great brushless buggy platform to use and it is super durable....i've had my 8ight for a while now and have learned to race and use the jumps at my local track and there are several huge jumps and in the beginning i rarely landed on my wheels....fast forward to 6 months later and the only thing i've broken is a rear hub carrier and a wing mount both $15.00 fixes....and +1 in terms of breaking it down to clean it and re building all the diffs and shocks.....and i wouldn't waste my time on the 8xl or 9xl, they both do run hot and they cogg....i'd save up for a Neu 1512 2.d or a Neu 1515 1/y/f....or you can get the new losi 2100kv motors out there...the Neu's will definitly last long and they are super smooth with the MM....and when all is said an done you can make at least $100 selling all the nitro stuff your not going to use :)

I highly suggest going w/ the tekno v3 brushless kit for the conversion.. it is awesome and the elctri-clutch is outstanding. I am running the Medusa v2 60mm 2000kv in it and it does very well 130-140 temps geared for about 38 on the top (4s lipo config). The nitro guys can't keep up and with the electri-clutch it helps keep control of the massive brushless torque. The great thing about the tekno kit is you keep your mechanical brakes as well... obviously no reverse, but you don't want that anyway.

PS super durable to date.. no broken parts... none.

I run a Losi 8ight and love it. Does it come with everything in the photos?

ffactory666 09.24.2008 04:41 AM

I would recommend you talk Drift Buggy since he is running one and it's going great

MiniGranis, great to hear that you´re planning a conversion

You should talk to Ogrfre01 either here at rcm or at RSB, he´s running a 8ight as well. I beleive the 8ight will be a great car to convert, should be quite simple to get the weight distribution right

Lycka till med bygget och lägg gärna upp en tråd på rsb så man kan få kika lite grann

miniGranis 09.24.2008 05:13 PM

Thanks alot guys, everyone seems very pro the 8ight.
Founds permitting this will be my winter project...

Drift_Buggy: Yep, if I buy it I will buy it as a roller WITH all the parts.
Ffactory666: Will go through Drift_Buggys thread soon.
Nephre: Already done (talking to Ogrfre that is..) Kul tråd du startade här...:-)

miniGranis 09.29.2008 02:52 PM

Ok first attempt to get one failed but just now I made a payment for a 8ight with PQ 4S 5000 mAh, MMM and a Neu 1512 2d/s :-)
Guess it wont be a winter project after all, now it's just a matter of drivning it :-)
(It's Ogfre's old buggy for those how know his thread.)
