Looking for my first "Real Vehicle"

Yep, Ive decided to start searching for a vehicle. Ive been tinkering with my parents cars for the longest of times and now its time to get somthing of my own. Im looking for something V6 or V8, 3L-7L, car or truck with a max price of $1000. Its a very low budget I know but since gas is so high right now and the economy is so poor everyone is selling for dirt.

A guy locally is selling this jeep for cheap...

And heres a Conversion van...

http://appleton.craigslist.org/cto/802277332.html

I know gas is high and its not smart to buy a v8 or an inefficient car/truck but that doesnt bother me. Im High School and their is nothing else to pay for but gas and insurance.

So what do you guys think?

BrianG 09.26.2008 11:18 PM

The van would be my choice for a bachelor. One good thing about a cheap car is that if you buy it outright (no loan) you only need liability insurance (actually, having collision/comprehensive is not worth it). To help with gas prices, but a BL-assisted system on there for take-offs/acceleration.

jayjay283 09.26.2008 11:29 PM

Glad to see they still sell cars that cheap aroun here LOL, Wife might have to be giving back the comany car and didnt account for that, That jeep is nice I have 1 like it sitting in my driveway I got in a trade, 4.0 (i think) but its an inline 6 (that didnt specify), the wrench heads around here said thats the motor to get, will run forever and easy to fix, always cheap jeep parts. But that van is the pimp mobile and crash pad in 1.

BrianG 09.26.2008 11:38 PM

Yup, and the crash pad is nice if you go out drinking with the guys since you don't technically need to drive home to get to bed.

takedown you havent thought about putting 1k for a down payment and get a newer car that will be more reliable?

couple of my freinds went your route and bought a cheaper car, but in the end put double the money into it just to keep it running.

in my opinion if you go with something nice now you will save yourself time and money.

if you can find a good reliable car though for 1k then more power to ya

jayjay283 09.27.2008 12:38 AM

Paying interest to the man blows. I assume your young if its your 1st car, buy it outright, dont get bogged down with payments. It does help build your credit, but anyone will give you credit on anything these days. I buy all my cars outright. If I have to save up 30g while driving an 8g truck, thats what I do (did) then I get what I want. Its mine, no one can take it. I can sleep in it forever if I want lol..JMO

there are so many commericals going on right now about 0%apr for the first 3 years around here so i figured it was a nation wide thing for car companies.

i understand what you are saying jay. interest will eff you up, but if you do it smart then it shouldnt matter.

entjoles 09.27.2008 03:08 AM

for the price the van is your best bet , as it has low miles:rules:

i drive a 95 jeep g.c. v8 and it has 154000 miles on it and runs like a champ, i would prefer the jeep personally over the van , + its 4wd (WI) and the van is rear wheel, but the van is less miles for your money:yes:

I think youll spend more than a grand a week on fuel lol. I drive a 1.3L 4cyl and I pay $80/wk just to get around. maybe its cheaper for you guys *shrugs* but if i was in a 7l v8 truck id be well into $200-300 a week. I'd prefer a new rc car each week than a dribble of fuel to get me to uni and back.

you need to have very good credit for 0% Issac score of at least 750 some times as high as 820.....but I agree with buying a better car being cheaper in the long run...I still have a 97 Honda Accord that has 250k miles on it and runs like a top...I fill the tank about once every 3 weeks....my work is less than 10 miles from home

Takedown 09.27.2008 08:37 AM

Ya, gas milage doesnt bother me right now. It will be my car for High School and once I get out I'll be selling it for a fuel saver. Ive found alot more deals to...

E-Revonut 09.27.2008 10:36 AM

Go for thr Taurus SHO! Nice car and pretty quick for a grocery getter and they get decent MPG

TexasSP 09.27.2008 10:45 AM

When I was a teenager one of my friends had a conversion van and it was the best vehicle out of any of us (including others who had sports cars). It could handle plenty of people, was the ultimate party mobile, and always had room.

Plus like BrianG said, there is always a place to sleep, no need to drive anywhere.

Takedown 09.27.2008 10:49 AM

Ya I hear their pretty quick.
