Battery options
Hey guys I was wondering about the quality of some different brands of lipo batteries:
Tanic packs: there prices are toward the higher end of the ladder, but if they go by the "you get what you pay for" motto then they should be good. Hyperion: They have a few different "lines" which is good. Neu energy: same people as the motor right? Polyquest: Protek: Omg they are cheap, they gotta use maxamps cells or something. Any help is appreciated. Right now I think I am looking for a 3 or 4 cell pack with about 4000+ Mah. I am guessing with a feagio or similar in a wheely king. Not much draw right? I should be able to run one of the 16c rated packs right? |
The wheely king is small and light. I am sure the protek pack would be fine with that truck. Neuenergy, Hyperion, and Polyquest all use enerland cells.
The protek packs appear to be using chinese cels, similar to maxamps and truerc... |
hey thanks. Well if the protek are crappy cells the I will probably go with something else. I still don't think it will draw a lot, but still a lot more than stock. My wheely king has a 13 inch wheel base and use clod size rims and tires. Gearing is low at 15/96 I believe. Now weight shouldn't be much different than stock other than the 1:8 lexan body and tires (which a lot more than stock derrer) I wish I had a scale and a motor tester. Do they even work on brushless like the one from muchmore. The thread was mainly to find out what cells these packs use but as u see I ramble on and wander alot. You answered my question perfectly except the tantric packs.
|
No idea what cells tantric packs have. I personally stick with enerland cell based packs, although I have a few truerc packs, and they have served me very well. 10th scale stuff just cannot load a lipo like a big 1/8 scale vehicle. What motor/esc do you plan to use, and what top speed are you going for? The heavier tires will place more load on the batteries...

neu packs use enderland cells so they are up the top of the performance specktrum. can i suggest looking at the zippies? in a light veichle they would be great and cheap too.
|
IMO if you are running a HV/low kv batter and motor setup you can get away with using a lower quality cell since the amp demands will be lowered but I stay with Flightpowers I have used the Zippy "R" sand they are a good cheaper alternative but not quite the punch of a Flightpower
|
yeah I forgot about the zippies. I have heard they have good bang for your buck. This is just a smaller project. No high speed or voltage. I am using a mamba maxx that I had on hand, I don't have a motor yet because I havnt decided but I am not going too spend a lot so something like a feagio or maybe a medusa. Another thing is how the heck am I gunna get a batt in there I would love 4s but doubt that I could get a 3 cell in there. Once this is done I need a new project.....
|
Definately spend the xtra $$$ and get the medusa, otherwise you WILL have overheating problems, and if you ignore this, the problem will worsen after each run. Pretty soon it will just become a paper weight. This has happened to all my feigao motors. It's very hard to tell what the internal temperture of the motor is, and it can be very frustrating to have to terminate your run after 5 minutes when everything seems to be running great.

The Zippy packs are the best bang for the buck. The old "you get what you pay for" saying isn't true. MaxAmps is a prime example. I use the Zippys in my V-Twin and they outperform both MaxAmps and Venom that I have used in the past. And for much less money. I paid less than $60 per pack for 3s 5Ah packs.
