Quick flm tranny question
ok just finishing up the flm tranny for the slash and was wondering what, if anything do i put on or at the seem of where the halves meet? to keep grit and fine sand out.....
|
You shouldn't need anything there. They fit pretty snugly together and shouldn't let anything in. However, a layer of white lithium grease between the halves should help ensure that no small particles get in.
|
cool i got it finished up now jusy waiting on the wheeliebar adapter so i can mount the slash rear bumper assembly.
|
It doesn't need anything but a bit of silicone would keep moisture out. Lithium grease will attract dust and dirt, I wouldn't use it.
|
It'd be messy, but you could fill the case with diff grease. That would prevent stuff from getting into the gear mesh, even if it could get into the case.
|
i filled the diff with 7000wt diff oil, it actually will stay in there for a few months before you need to take it out, wipe out the cases and do it agian, but it REALLY makes it handle alot better, without the trouble of a balldiff,
and for the halves meeting i used a tiny film of red silicon type lube on one case half before i put them together. (didnt have any lithium grease) haha i doubt ill fill the cases full of grease that a little too far lol, i actually cleaned all the grease off the gears and used 50wt shock oil as the gear lube. it doesnt sling off as bad will actually "web" between the gears and makes it extremely quite, that was a trick i was told at the track a LONG LONG time ago, it works like those lucas oil demo things where you crank the handle and watch the regular oil only go up two of the gear but you crank the handle on the lucas side and it goes over ALL the gears, thats basically what it does. |

My FLM tranny case is order form Mike but i can not find this adapter to mount the rear bumper. And another thing, how your 7000 diff oil can stay in the diff, this diff is not seal at all:neutral: |

Motor Guard/ Wheelie Bar Mount FLM20700 Machined from billet 6061 aluminum Desigend to fit on FLM tranny case Will allow the use of Traxxas wheelie bar Protects motor Includes all necessary mounting hardware $11.00 each |
OK thank you just after posting my mesage, i have find it at rcmonster store and order one:yipi:
But not sure if i will can install it with my Neu motor 40mm can:neutral: |
david i know it aint sealed but it DOES stay in there for 2-3 months and then you gotta take it out and redo it, im sure if you used thicked oil itd last longer in there but would also have more of a spool affect, with the 7000 it acts like a properly adjusted balldiff.
|
oh and mike has the wheelie bar mount instock as he just shipped mine out today
|
I will try it Ross, i have 7000 here. For now, i use industrial extrem pressure red grease in the diff and inside the tranny case to lubricated the gear, but with this grease in the diff, the diff is realy too loose, i do not like the action of the diff.
I will try with 7000 or 10000, because with my Neu 1512 on this little truck, the tranny will take a beat:lol: Another question, did you use the stock slider or you have replace it with a CVD kit... |
stock sliders all the way, theyll flex and give more as an entire assembly and last qutie a long time. dont use the steel outdrive things for the stock sliders either theyll just wear out the half shafts faster.
