Just an observation i seen about the MMM

I know the V1 had the BEC problems, V2 has had few of them, But they seem to smoke fast with the loads we put on them. Could it be the Y winds causing the most problems? I do not have one yet, but do plan to have one in the future. I just haven't seen many with the D winds having problems. I know going to a Y from a D will increase torque and lower RPM By a factor of 1.73, Is it possible that its increasing the current or the braking force by that much and overloading the components? I realize i don't have one and can't test it, This is something i have noticed. I also know that some with fegaios, I'm pretty sure they are all D winds, have had troubles, But i think they were due to a less than ideal efficient motor and thus causing the overload Just the same.

This is not a flame or rant, Just an observation and possible helping to create a better, stronger product, through elimination.

Thanks for reading

Mine died with a 1515 2.5D - I think it is more mechanical failure than elec...

I also had one die with a 2.5d...and the wye wind is more efficient

Ok, I stand corrected. I just didn't remember too many posts from D winds having problems. I run that motor in my G-revo and it doesn't work my quark real hard, I guess if it doesn't add to the subject, the Mods can delete this thread. My bad, I just thought i saw something.

I also running a 2.5D, but mine all died bec death. Castle uses the Y winds because it is more efficient than the D.

This is how I see the MMM situation:

V1's had a problem with the BEC. Some flamed, but relatively few. Mods that remove the BEC (when done correctly) seems to keep working fine. Some ESCs have even been brought back from the dead by the BEC mod.

V2's may still had a BEC problem, but the bigger problem IMO is the proximity of the bullet connectors and the heatsink, over time and vibration, any protective layer between the two wears out and possibly shorts.

V1's did have a IC problem in the bec but I think MOST of the V2 problems are mechanical. My best performing Monster has no fan connector on the bottom, the fan grill is removed, insulated bullets from the heat sink. Works like clock work.

My feigao 7xl setup that smoked my MMM is now running strong with an MM and external BEC. I dont think the motor efficiency has anything to do with it. You cant gear them much above 38mph on a stock emaxx or they heat up too much. MM does fine its the motor to worry about. If the new Castle motors are really that much more efficient than my feigao running it with an MM might just be the way to go. It still amazes me everytime I hit the throttle how well the MM handles the current and just lights the tires right up. The crazy part of all this is that the current spikes are less on this setup than on my 7700 combo in my stampede.

mine also died on a feigao... i think they are a delta wind. but when it comes home it will have a neu 1wye waiting for it:love:

i have a 1515 1.5y and a 1512 2d and never had any MMM problems with v1 and v2

magman 10.08.2008 07:07 PM

My v1 smoked when I jumped from 4s to 5s...and it took the ccbec with it...considering it is down, I might do Brian's mod to see if I can bring it back from the dead
