Slowmotion videos of a MBX5T and a modified Protos - both brushless
To get a better idea of what the suspension of our cars really does while driving i experimented with a slowmotion plugin wich is able to render inbetween frames. Those are the results:

By reducing a video to 25% of its normal speed 1 second becomes 4 second meaning you have to generate 75 frames out of only 25 existing frames (captured originaly with your video cam). As you can see this plugin does a fairly good job and the results are very smooth looking slowmotion shots. But if you look closer you can see a few rendering errors: the rulux rims of the mbx5t sometimes do appear to be staying still. Enjoy |

Nice vids! Watching scaled down suspension act exactly as it's full scale counterparts would gets me everytime. I'm gonna go ahead and say it... I love R/C!

I'm normally not a big fan of underlaying a video with music as i want to hear the motor and tires work, but slowing down audio by 75% makes it sound awkward and is rather disturbing for a longer time. @BL_RV0 I used a rather old Canon XL1 DV cam which we aren't using anymore at work. @MetalMan Thanx Metalman. Shooting and editing videos is a hobby of mine besides RC cars of course. @captain harlock Its the MBX5T of a friend of mine. We usualy meet on weekends and drive together on his "homemade" track. A few months ago he drove his MBX5T with a Neu 1515/1Y (2200kv), an MGM 16018 and 6s2p A123. During hot sommer days this setup did run rather hot. He then choose to switch to a HV setup and switched to a Neu 1515/2Y (1100kv), a Schulze 32170 and 11s1p A123. The rather big Schulze controller stays very cool, motor runs cooler too. Awesome videos Othello thanks for posting them, I'm very impressed with the quality from a 30fps original, what is the plugin you used and what does it plug into? It is definitely something I want to look into if its not too expensive.
The video is good enough to see the wheels on the buggy flexing away like they were made of cheese, do you know what these wheels were? I would like to avoid them like the plague. |

Schulzes are crazy big ;-) At their price level you would imagine they work flawlessly. But no ... brakes are not as proportional as you would expect them to be. One time you are overbreaking the car while only slightly breaking and the next time brakes are so weak while braking the same way you did before and you are missing the next turn (very inconsistent brakes) ... startup with the Neu motor is very poor (we assume the schulze doesn't cope well with the voltage drop of the A123 cells, but we never tested the setup with lipos). You almost have to push the car to avoid cogging. The schulze will start the Neu up but with severe cogging which can last for 1-2 seconds while making an awfull noise. The Jazz 55-10-32 has no problem starting a similar setup without any cogging and is only 1/5 the size of the schulze. Schulze recommended exchanging every component (besides the schulze of course) to avoid cogging. Oh well ... you know schulze ;-) BTW ... your 10s ESC is very tempting. @nativepaul and A4DTM I tested the twixtor plugin for Adobe After Effects. I used Proline lpr rims without offset and crimefighter LPR tires. I think what appears to be flexing is due to my very worn out arms (suspension). They have a very big play which makes the tire wander around big time. The MBX5T used the same tires but with rulux lpr rims (which are stiffer and not as flexible as proline rims). @to all Thanx for you kind words. |
