Bad Hv Maxx
 

I actually had my first real run with the HV MAXX tonight:D . However, I managed to break my front MIP drive shaft, idler gears and my reverse quit working on me:mad: all in the matter of minutes. But I have to hand it to Novak. I know alot of people dont believe in the HV but I sure am a believer. This truck is an absolute beast (probably nothing compared to the other setups out there). Wheelies like no other and speed is just impressive.:D .

I forgot to mention that I stripped one of my hex screws that holds the shock bracket to the A arm. Any ideas on how I can get it out?

as long as you are happy with it that is all that really matters. i also have one and like that fact that it is smooooooth, and comes in a nice case. But just like the ss5800 it really doesnt pack all that much performance. I think it is good overall though since it helps bring brushless to the general public and should be good on smaller tracks.

It just doesn't have that scary power that most of us going brushless are looking for. Just for a comparison I am currenly running a 8l. The 8l gives me that power I was looking for but realistically will be more then I will be able to use on any track.

I was using a 14 junk no name 2400s and I was impressed. I dont think I will be needing anymore than this. i will try and race a friend of mine that has a revo just to see what I cound do.

What type are you using? Is it a flat head or socket cap screw?

When I was taking off my G2 shock towers I stripped a flat head screw and couldnt get it out. I ended up drilling it out and was able to pry the tower off and just have to remove the screw with pliers. If its a socket cap screw you can take a dremel and make a straight notch in it so you could then use a flat head screwdriver to remove it.

Not sure how you stripped your screw but mine was from a bad set of hex drivers. I was using a small snap on set with ball ends. Those are terrbile. I now have the Integy set and love them. A good set of drivers are a must. Mike carries this set in the store too.

I think my set of hex drivers are bad. both the screw and the driver rounded. I am going to try the dremel trick and I just didnt want to ruin that bracket.

Just go slow and be careful. The dremel could jump on you. Then invest in a good set.

Well the HV-Maxx was never intended to be really as powerful like the other set ups out there.
It is exactly fine as it is.
It is intended to be reliable, stronger and faster than stock and give good performance and help others come into a brushless system for a monster truck.
I personally think its a great set up and I think it has plenty of power needed.

I have one and I hope to put it in my TXT-1 soon.

Personally, I think scary power is very subjective.

"reverse quit working" kind of negates the reliable thing, though huh! The cvd thing could have been a loose set screw and the UE idlers will fix the tranny.

I got the reverse going again although I still dont know what it was. It works fine now though. I also think that it was a loose set screw. Luckily I had a spare set of idler gears to get the truck going again. Its either i get a set of idler gears or wait till I can get my hands on the proto tranny...lol.

Havent seen that truck in a long time. How much longer before its running Chase?

Well when I say reliability, it doesn't mean 100% for every one of them out there but a good high percentage of them.

You will probably hear people complain about problems as time progresses. Also it will not be as reliable as people abuse it and over gear it and etc.

Oh the TXT-1 Orion has kinda ran, it was on dual LRP Big Blocks using the Mtroniks Super E-Truck, it was having problems with the rear steering giving up on one side as it ran. It kept going left as I pushed Full Throttle so I need to get that fixed when I put in the new HV-Maxx. This one is a Shelf Queen/Show Truck that I kinda run here and there.

That TXT-1 is Full Aluminum except the axle casings, stock tranny gears, Everything else is aluminum, even the Rod Ends (I think the rod ends are steel tho.)

As far as the gearing goes I just followed Novaks recommendation when tuning via the gears. Its geared 16/72 right now (didnt have a 70). I think I am going to stick with this pinion/spur gear ratio for now. I love the performance that it gives the truck. I might bump it up slowly as I am testing with fully charged packs. Wheelies are cool but I am going to have to tune the shocks so that it will just squat and put the punch into good use. I may also get the chassis extension.

Mike, do you have any chassis extentions, UE idler gears, UE drive shafts? I know I need more things but cant think of the others right now.

How would the extension affect my handling and turn in?

The extension will allow the truck to soak up the bumps much better, as well as tame the wheelies and make the truck much more stable. Jumping characteristics are greatly improved as well (flies more level and easy to make in-air adjustments). The turning radius is slightly larger, but the ability to turn and how the truck turns is minimally affected.
