Brushless (new) e-revo questions?

I have a couple of questions to ask. I have the new e-revo and it is converted to brushless it has Feigao 8xl motor with the MM esc and I'm going to use 2 2s2p 8000mah packs wired to get 14.8v.

Question #1. I used BrianG's calculator for gearing, but will a 22t pinion and 58 spur keep the temps at a reasonable level? If not any suggestions.

Question #2. I have mounted the feigao 8xl to the traxxas single motor mount using the heatsink that has different mounting options. I'm using RC monsters heatsink with end clamp on the motor, My issue is that i had to turn the pinion gear around (so grub screw is towards end of motor shaft) to get the pinion and the spur to line up. Has anyone had this issue as well. I couldn't turn the pinion the other way because then i could not tighten the grub screw for the pinion. I'm using the mod .8 gears

Question #3. Later I would like to upgrade the motor to a neu 1515 model motor will I need to get a different esc(have MM right now) or can I get by with what I have?

Thanks to anyone that can help....

I have a couple of questions to ask. I have the new e-revo and it is converted to brushless it has Feigao 8xl motor with the MM esc and I'm going to use 2 2s2p 8000mah packs wired to get 14.8v.

I usually gear for 40mph, if that is what the gearing you listed is for, then you should be fine.

As long as the grub screw is on the shaft I see no problem.

Question #3. Later I would like to upgrade the motor to a neu 1515 model motor will I need to get a different esc(have MM right now) or can I get by with what I have?

If you go with the 1515 1y you should be fine. I run a 1515 1.5d in my revo and think it is a bit of amp hungry motor. My MMM works fine with it, but I think the MM would be pushed a bit much. Stick with the 1y and reasonable gearing and you should be fine with the MM.

Thanks to anyone that can help....

You are welcome!

Thanks again for the info:smile:. Have you tried the mod 1 gears? I know there probably not much difference between them other than their mod size. The pinion issue still bothers me because the grub screw is at the end of the motor shaft. I know you have a different motor but did you have do turn your pinion around too to get the pinion and spur to line up?

I am not sure if I had to turn the pinion around. I do not have the truck here so I am going of my poor memory. I am running mod1 gearing, with modded MGT spurs. I think my mod 1 pinions fit with the grub screw on the motor side, but it was a tight fit. It should be fine as long as you have enough of the shaft available to tighten the grub screw onto.

I forgot to mention I also was looking at the medusa mr036-60-2000v2-5 motor as well would the mm work with that as well. Thanks again. questions, questions, questions. makes us all a little wiser.

As does reading

The medusa 60mm motors will work fine with the mambamax- probably better suited as they are smaller and therefore less amp hungry comared to the larger neus. Should still work fine and give decent power, though I personally am waiting for the 70mm medusas to replace my 9XL.
