CRT Brusless converison
Hey guys, i completed my brusless CRT last week. I am using the mamba max 1/8 scale ESC, 13t pinion, Hyperion 4s 5000mah. It seems to me that the truggy is under powered. I am new to 1/8 brushless. I am using an Align 1700kv brusless motor. Am I doing something wrong here? Do I need something more powerfull?

Nice looking conversion, and welcome to RCM!
If it seems slow to you that's because it is. The Align motor (1700kV) and a 4s LiPo pack (~15V) only give you ~25000 max. RpM to play with. How are the temps after a run? You could try a larger pinion (say 15T) if nothing is getting very hot. Otherwise a new motor somewhere in the 2200-2500kV range would work, or moving up to a higher voltage pack (5s or 6s). The Align will handle up to 6s as will the ESC. The higher voltage option would be optimal since it will be more efficient. For a 6s pack a motor in the range of 1400-1600kV would be desired. I'm basing this on max. motor speed of 35000 RpM, which is similar to a nitro engine. |

Your gearing is kind of low for trying to get any speed out of a 1700kv motor. I run that same gearing on a Neu 1515/1Y (2200kv) and only get 36mph out of it on 4S. The only concern I would have is if that Align motor has enough power to adequately push a truggy in the high 30mph range. My guess is no.

It can handle up to 1600 watts. I think that's enough (?).

what motor would you suggest to get the most power? I am looking to stick with the 4s battery.

A Neu 1515/1Y is what I would recommend.

You could temporarily throw in an 18t pinion to get decent speeds out of it, and preorder a Medusa 36-70-2000 motor.

I appreciate the advise guys. Just so eveyone is aware, i am going to be running the truggy on the track. So should I be looking at more top speed or better acceleration?
|
How big is the track? You'll want to gear your truck so that you can hold full throttle for at least a few seconds each lap (too little full throttle means it has too much top end), but you don't want to be holding full throttle for the whole length of the straight. In my experience approximately 40mph is a good starting point.

I have a friend who wants to sell me a feigao 7xl 2382 brushless. Would this motor be much beter?

If you don't want to spend as much as a Neu costs, the Medusa that MetalMan recommended would do a great job in the CRT. |
