i think i have a problem...driveshafts
ight, so i KNOW im not running the most powerfull setup in the world
MM on 4s with NEU 1515 1.5d, but im murdering my 3.3 revo center shafts http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...e/IMG_0447.jpg After the break i burned my finer so i temped it and it was at 225....:gasp: Any ideas?! i havent heard of this happening to anyone else. Im not breakign shafts..im melting them! |
Hmm, what vehicle are they out of? New emaxx? Looks too long to the front shaft. Is this in a maxx or a revo? You have it in the maxx section...
|
sorry, its a 3906 Maxx with a 3.3 conversion
|
Well, I have temped my driveshaft joints before and they do run warm. I would say that next time you install the cross pins in the universal put a small amount of oil where theygo into the bolck and make sure they rotate freely. I have no idea why they are melting though...
|
I use RC-Monster dogbones for my centers and they get pretty hot. A few people have posted that those ears on the out drives twisted off, but not melted. You have friction somewhere to generate heat like that. I would do lincs mod above or get the dogbones.

I'd have to agree that it's a friction issue. You tend to see the same thing happen when guys put lift kits in their trucks - the first thing to go is the u-joints. Thankfully, on full size rigs, we have grease fittings to help that.

and i really dont wwant to grease it...i need a can of magic |
I just took my EMaxx out today for the first time after my conversion, MMM v3, NEU 1515 1.5d on 4s, and within 100 feet of initial launch my front ones snapped too! Looks worst than yours, mine is in pieces. It broke off where it connects to T in front gearbox. It almost looks like it tore the clips right off the pins!

Get the dogbones.....end of problem.

Which ones are you talking about exactly? |
This will help a lot. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGS04&P=7

These are the ones for the 3906. Since you did a 3.3 conversion, did you lengthen the chassis? If so, then these may not work... The 5151R set is for the new emaxx, but I doubt if they will fit right. |
for those of you that has a 3905, i suggest you guys check your center drive shafts as well. mine never twisted, but the allen screw, is always loose after every run!
so maybe its because the allen screw is loose, which causes it to twist. for some reason, its only the center driveshaft....all the other driveshafts screws never needs tightening. the driveshaft im talking about, is the one where you tighten from the top of chassis (that little hole in front of the gearbox) i have the rpm center skid plate. |
The reason for twisting center shafts is because it takes the largest amount of the torque. The grub screw has nothing to do with that. On yours, you should try replacing the end of the shaft, or put some loctite on it.
