E Revo - MMM/Medusa 36-60-1500kv setup
 

Hi Guys,

Many Thanks to Linc for such a fine motor.

I installed this Medusa 36-60-1500kv in my E Revo. Realizing the lower Kv multipole motors make more torque than their high revving 2 pole counterparts, I decided to go with the same gearing my AXI 2826/8 motor had been pushing around. The gearing is Mod 1, a 22 tooth motor pinion and a 40 tooth Nitro Revo spur.

Now this is some pretty high gearing, so I figured it best to keep an eye on temps.

Maiden voyage for my Monster Mamba using this setup. I LOVE this ESC. No problems thus far. She's running like a champ. I love it.

First run was on 4S 20C 5000mah Lipo. Performs very well. Temps were well in hand even without a heat sink.

On 6S, it's impressive. This little motor REALLY puts out some good power considering the gearing. According to Brian's Speed Calculator, on 6S, this is geared for 60mph.

6S operation is what made me install the fan/heat sink on the motor. Without it, temps would get out of hand pretty quick. I ran it for about 10 minutes without and decided I better stop.

6S operation is good with the fan/heat sink installed. The ESC is more stressed as the fan cycles on and off, and seems to be stimulated by WOT runs. LOL I think my pair of 3S Lipo's have just about had it. It was getting on the LVC about halfway through the run. They are about a year old now though and have seen alot of abuse. I know I overamped them several times on other setups. What's a good set of 3S Lipo's to go with for the E Revo? I'm looking.

Sorry for the gob of wires, but there is a CC BEC in there programmed to 7 volts running the fan only. Servos and Radio are both being powered by the ESC.

I'll do some more runs and testing tomorrow. Perhaps 5S is the sweet spot for this setup.

I decided to make a run this morning on 4S. I was thinking "Wow, this is really doggy compared to the 6S."

Then I hit WOT in reverse for a few seconds and noticed it was much more powerful. Duh!

Now I feel stupid. The Throttle Channel on the Radio was reversed and it was running around programmed for 50% Reverse.

After swapping two motor wires and reversing the Throttle Channel, things REALLY came to life! Perfect on 4S! Motor temps well in hand with the fan/heat sink, but now the fan on the ESC was cycling on and off.

Well I had to try it. 6S! Now it's a different beast entirely. Tire Ballooning, rolling wheelies and increased temps.

Continous operation would overheat the motor. I'm going to enlarge the heat sink area on the motor and possibly add a second fan.

It will go from 0 to uncontrollable in about .5 seconds.

My run was cut short when a drive shaft gave up! Can anyone say power? LOL

Good job on finding the crossed motor wire. I recently got my revo conversion going and have only messed with it for about 10 min. The MMM and medusa 60mm 2000kv seemed good, but I'm wondering if I too crosses motor wires and forward is revese and vise versa. I have it set for 50% reverse, but when I tested the ESC on my test bench in rev the thing took off violently. Forward seemed good, but I'm not sure if thats just becasue I don't know any better. lol.

Anyway get that drive shaft fixed so you can beat on that monster some more.:diablo:

I would gear down a bit and run it on 6s... Polyquest 3s 6000mah packs are about the best packs i can find. Not sure if they will fit in the battery compartments...

Good catch! I meant 3s packs, and I fixed the error! Not even the Pimp is perfect, remember that kids! Although I never claimed to be perfect, just very good!

NeuEnergy 3s packs, haven't got them yet but the price is incredible! 4900mah 3s for under 100 bucks

Well I got the front right drive shaft replaced with a new one and decided to have some fun again today.

I got almost two runs in. First run was on 4S2P of the 2500mah Sony 26650 cells. The run lasted about 30 minutes and was alot of fun. The Batteries were a little warm at the end of the run but did perform really well.

Second run was on 4S 20C 5000mah Lipo. I can tell the discharge curve is flatter and they hold voltage under a load better. Rolling wheelies, Rooster Tails of dirt and gravel. It's alot of fun. The hottest I seen the motor on 4S with this gearing was about 135 degrees. I can live with that. The thing is a Torque Monster and tops out about 40mph.

BUT.............back to the drawing board here. About 20 minutes into the second run, I discovered how to throttle it and make it get up on it's back tires and walk. It's really funny. I can save it most of the time too. :yes:

But obviously, I either got some weak factory driveshafts or this kinda thing is pretty hard on them. The other front driveshaft blew out the side this time.

I'm really happy with the ESC and the motor though.

Looks like a good setup. Can you imagine how powerful the 1515 1.5d (2700kv) motor is on 4s in my erevo... And I have another erevo that I am building that will run a hacker c50 11xl on 6s. Should be potent, I plan to gear it for 60+ mph just to show the v-twin guys what real power is all about...

wouldnt you think that the rear shafts would take more abuse? i wonder why the fronts are blowing

sikeston34m , i can see on your pics that you don't cover the cooling holes on the back of your motor:surprised:
I'am not sure that your investment while last very long.
The sand who'll go between the rotor and coil while short something very soon, so put duck tape to cover the holes and bearing, and place some drop of boostix (hot glue) around the output wires.

I can only imagine how powerful the Neu motors are. I haven't stepped up to that plate yet. LOL I do foresee a Castle Neu in my future. I do desire it, so I will acquire it. LOL

Yeah on the rear driveshaft thing. That's what I was thinking too. But when I raise it up to "walk the dog", it goes side to side, then I hit the throttle again right about the time it comes down. This is what I was doing when this one blew.

I could loosen up on the slipper a little, but that's no fun. LOL

Yeah, you're right. I've just been running it around naked. LOL

That's a good idea. I'll probably do just that.
