lipo battery mounting question
this may be another dumb question but here goes...does it matter if a lipo sits in the tray on the cell edge or does it have to sit on the flat side of the cell ??...the reason i ask is i'm having a hard time finding a battery(5s 4800/5000 zippy) to fit either of the RCM trays that i have...thanks for the help ....again

As long as the mounting surface is smooth, it shouldn't matter. I run my 2s 5Ah pack in my CRT.5 on edge for many runs and it works just fine.

you can also pick up losi 8ight-e battery tray....i have one and it fits everything from my 4s 5000mah 20-30c zippys to my 4s 5000mah thunderpower extreme v2 lipos....its pretty versatile....or mike can custom mill a tray for you :) .....i ran my truerc 4s 5000mah pack on its side in my 8ight-t (which i no longer have) and after the pack was done it noticed that one side was puffed out more than the other (probably my inability to land ANY jump) but it still charged and discharged fine and i'm still using it...

Hootie,
Could you please post the interior dimensions of the Losi E-eight tray? Thanks! |
Damn! I'm at work for 48hrs!!! I won't be able to give you the dimensions until i get home....my bad!!! :) but if you have the tray combined with the 8ight-e body you'll definitely be able to fit bigger batteries without touching the body...my tallest pack is a neuenergy 4s 5000mah lipo and I have probably 3-5mm of clearance from the top of the battery to the top of the body.....hopefully someone here has the tray as well and can give you the dimensions sooner....

No problem. When ever you get a chance would be great. I have one of the RCPD integrated splash pan battery trays for an E-8, but haven't even used it yet. I kind of like the lighter "looking" 3 strap system that Losi came up with.

The losi battery trays are around 50mm wide and 163mm long.....i based these measurements of the inside of the tray...hope this helps :)

Thanks Hootie! That helps me a lot with battery purchases.
