MSR5 Shocks
What piston and oil setup is recommended for the Integy MSR5 Shocks on an Emaxx?
|
how much does it weigh?
-corey |
Approx. stock weight.
|
about 30-40wt
|
I have them on my emaxx. My emaxx weights about 11lbs with everything(batteries, wheels) and i used 45wt and it was way to light! i has a few mm ground clearence and when i gave it throttle the back bottomed out. So now i have ordered some 70wt and 80wt from tower and im waiting for that to come. I do jumps so thats why i went quiet alot higher. I would sugest getting 60wt, the shocks come with 3 different pistons, 1 hole, 2 holes, and 3 holes, so you can make it stiffer or softer.
|
I use about 100 weight oil with the Integy shocks. the piston holes are quite large, so a heavy oil is needed.
|
Went with 1 hole pistons, 80wt on the corners, 50wt on the inside. Also have hard springs. How do I keep the truck from slamming down hard over big jumps and keep the ride height low?
|
its going to bottom out. unevitable. unless you make it so stiff it will bounce.
|
its better to bottom out on big jumps, when i say that i dont mean so it smacks into the ground, i mean so that it just bottoms out. if you make the shocks to stiff you might end up bending shafts.
Anyone got a link to those hard springs? i looked on towerhobbies but i couldnt find them, i need them cause the ones that come with it dont have enough spring to push the shock back out properly. |
With my emaxx i had these shocks all 8 of them with the stock red springs that come with your stock shocks, and i used a one hole piston with 80wt oil all around and it worked fine.

Mike- Which piston hole setup are you using?
|
I found the solution for my MSR5 Shocks, as they were always soft. I removed the piston that is included in the Integy shock set and replaced it with a stock Traxxas 2 hole piston.
The OD of the piston is the same on both shocks, but the inside hole of the Traxxas piston needs to be drilled out to match the 3.5mm shock shaft of the MSR5(9/64" hole I think) The "vent" holes in the Integy pistons are too large, that is why dampening action is hindered. Then I used 80 wt oil and hard springs (4 Traxxas black hard springs and 4 white Ofna 9.5 buggy springs) Hope this helps... |
i use 80wt oil, 4 shocks with trinity heavy duty springs and 4 shocks with the springs that came with it wound all the way down. With this set up i can just change the shock position to make it hard for jumping and soft for climbing or racing around.

I run my truck at race height, low and arms level w/ the ground with no preload on my springs. At the track, there is a 4 1/2' tall jump and my truck lands with no problem. Also, with this setup, my truck handles like its on rails.
Before this setup I was using the 1 hole Integy piston and 100wt oil, but I could not have a low ride height and land big jumps without smacking the ground hard. |
I have my Em-axx at Race Height Too. Center at the Top Mount, Second to the Last on Bottom(Closer to the Wheels). Trinity Blue Heavy Springs on the Outside Shocks, the Stock Blue ones on the Inside, and 90wt Team Losi Oil in em....works fine.
