Upgrade/Revamp of my Hyper ST!
Hey guys, I thought I'd share my mini-project with you. As you know, I have a already BL Hyper ST. I'm going to upgrade it to make it more race worthy, and save some weight as well. I'd get pictures but my camera is being stupid and saying there is no memory card installed. I've set it up to run saddle packs in the rear, hopefully balancing things out and making my wiring cleaner (you'll see). Plan is to use my 600XL, MM and 4s lipo Neu Energy 3200mah, 30c. What runtimes do you think I'll get? These packs are short enough to mount so they don't hang over the edges of the chassis. Here's how I plan to set it up. Saddle packs in rear, motor in the front, left corner of the truck, MM on top of the servo deck, and RX in a t-maxx rec. box next to the servo. All the servo, ESC and BEC wires will be taken care of with the RX box and the battery wires will be guided in a creative way so that it turns out to be a clean setup. If I cleaned the hell out of the truck, and I've got to say it looks great now! I'm ditching the stock wheels and tires, and going for some PL LPR premounts or HPI Nubz, in the same fashion. I found a great deal on some NIB white premounted Nubz, and I think I'll pick those up. I'm going for racing on this setup, and I'm trying to save some weight, as well as upgrade anything you think would be necessary. Bearings? I'm definitely getting a new servo, can you point me in the right direction? I can't find any CF hopups for the Hyper ST, maybe you can? I'm also looking into a new motor. I was thinking a 36-70 medusa or something else, but I'm going to stick with the powerhouse 600XL for now. Also going to put a 1972 Chevy C10 body on it, painted midnight blue. Should look very nice!

If I read you right, a 4S pack of 3200mah is only going to get you maybe 8 mins on the track. 6400 would be quite at least double. A moer eff motor would help too.
I have a H. ST, and honestly, I think trying to go crazy getting CF stuff and high end bearings is a bit of a waste of time on such a truck. The hyper is just heavy. If you want a lightwieght, just spend the money and get a 8T or X2 or such up front. Now, that is not to say the ST is not a capable racer as it. Its quite good. The steering is phenominal, and BL has more than enough power to make up for the extra weight. The times I've ran it on the track I never felt outclassed with the truck. Its way more down to driving ability. RCM Mike took the wheel of it for a bit and drove the S@#$ of it. Its a good truck stock. Lastly, have you just thought about just getting a MMM and ditching the MM/bec and all that? That would make a cleaner setup, and more expandable down the line. For $145 you can't go wrong. |
Yeah, you'd be right about the 8min runtime, but the 600XL isn't much of a amp-hungry beast, and it's only geared for ~35. I don't kill my trucks, I like to jump but I'm a good enough driver that I don't break things often. I'd like a MMM, but I don't think I have the cash right now. I think I'll wait for the V3's to come out, sell a few things, and get a MMM and a 2s and a 3s pack, and gear down. I hope to see decent runtimes this way. Thoughts?

You said "a" 2S and/or 3S battery...why not a pair of 4S, 5S, 6S, or even 3S packs wired in parallel? You will get the right voltage, plus double or more run-time! What's the max voltage input for the Mamba Max? Whatever it is, buy two packs, each with the same voltage as the max input of the MM and run them in parallel...that way you could get a minimum of 10,000mAh, and the is more than enough room on a Hyper ST 1/8 truggy.

The setup is very balanced, I love mine, what happened to your MMM and neu?

Why would you step down from a MMM and medusa to a MM and 600xl?
|
I don't think he is, that's an old post...

Wow, old thread. It is not accurate, i'm running the medusa and am happy with it.
