First time BL conversion on a Hyper 7

Hey guys,

I am looking to convert my Hyper 7 pbs to BL as the Nitro side of things is dying on me. Its just too much of a pain. Anyways I have been doing some research here and on other forums and have come up with a general idea of the setup I want. I just want to see what you guys have to say and if there are any tips / hints / ideas that you could give me to steer me in the right direction.

Heres my hyper as of now...

The setup I am leaning towards is this:

ESC- MM (b/c I already have one)
Motor- Feigao 8,9, or 10xl
Mount- Novak BL conversion (I would go RCM, but I like how it already has the battery boxes)
CC BEC

Any info from you guys would be great, seems like a really great forum here.

rcm battery tray and mount are a 100x better than the novak stuff.

The RCM mount does look much nicer. The reason I picked the Novak conversion is that I am on a pretty limited budget right now and it seems that the Novak setup comes with two battery trays, the mount, a fan, among a couple other things. Just seemed like that was the smarter way to go and would get more for my money.

Any other info I should know guys ?

novak overheats, inst as powerful and the guys running it at my track are all wishing they had paid only a little bit more would have had a monster :P

my tip: save up. save yourself the trouble of temping it every 2 minutes and im pretty sure ive never seen a novak get a buggie to wheelie. even with the centre diff! LOL

Another thing the other guys haven't pointed out yet... if you get the novak kit, you can only use novak hv motors.

+1 on the rcm kit.

I'm soon ordering an rc-m mount and tray for my mugen, after using Mike's mount on my revo I could not see using anything else.

Nice looking Hyper 7.

X2 - The RC-Monster conversion rocks! I just finished converting my Hyper 8 using the RCM kit.

Thanks for all the feedback guys... I didnt know you could only use the Novak stuff with the Novak motors... bahhhh!

Looks like RCM it is... I just need to save up a little extra dough I guess.

Do they offer a complete Hyper 7 conversion kit, or do I just buy the motor mount and battery boxes ?

And sorry last question on this post... Do I need to get a motor mount plate too ?

nitro_joe 10.30.2008 01:22 PM

All you need is the motor mount and battery box.

Steve182 10.30.2008 04:39 PM

Okay cool, thanks nitro_joe.

Hey guys, quick question since Im going with the Feigao, I have a choice of either the 8 , 9, or 10xl.

I will be running a 4s Zippy lipo for power, so Im not sure which motor will be the best decision. From what I have seen it looks like the 10xl is the most popular, but what do you guys think ?

Thanks in advance.

tc3_racer_001 11.05.2008 08:00 PM

10xl will run the coolest - but the slowest. so what you need to do is run higher voltage to suit. not sure what the kv rating is, but say its around 1700, id say 5s would be ideal. not sure though.

I have a line on a 6s A123 pack, but am not sure how to fit it on the chassis yet. That would give me some nice speed / torque I think.

Btw, I stripped it down so its ready to go for BL power. (I forgot the tank mounts though :D )

Still Nitro:

like others have said. dont get junk cause its cheaper. the motor u want is gonna overheat and you must have mikes motor clamp or it will fall apart.

i would call mike and get the right stuff. The medusa motor is the best bang for your buck. 5s is the way to go. dont forget a fan for u MM.
