Mini E - Maxx Project
 

After searching the web for a few months, I have concluded that no car on the market praticularly interestes me :L: Now, I ran across a mini emaxx a few years back, I believe our own rc-monster mike created it. I am very interested in duplicating this with my own touches possibly. As for parts im guessing it the tc3 front and rear assemblies with modded shock towers, and a new chassis?

Mike, if you could help me get started on this I would greatly appreciate it. I'll look to purchase most the parts through you, but I assume I should look into the used tc3 market.

As for a powerplant, i'm looking to run my MGM 80 on 6 gp 3800 cells. As for the motor, I own a Lehner 4200 but that may be a bit overpowered for this selection.

For initial questions, I was wondering what type of servo setup this would use ( 1/10 or 1/18) and the ball park cost of this thing. Thanks. Pictures of other one's will only fuel my addiction, err...passion.

I made a mini emaxx a few years back. I still have it, actually. I chopped up an old tc3 chassis for the diffs and made my own chassis. I made it with a hack saw and a dremel at the time, so it is rough around the edges. I dug up some pictures, too.

I used the rally conversion, an airplane motor(480 size) and made my own chassis, motor mount etc. It uses a mini MG servo, but a full size servo could fit. I drilled new holes in the suspension arms for more travel and used super nitro rally wheels/tires at the time. It would out crawl the tlt, and outhandle the mini ts on the track. It also had plenty of wheelie power(especially with a 3s lipo!) and was a blast to run in the house.
Perhaps I will update this little gem, now that I have some better equipment!
if you take this project on, please post some pictures! I can, of course, help you with parts, etc. as well!
I actually picked up a Feigao 38012l motor to use in this little gem, too. And it eventually got rear 1/10 buggy bowties on chrome rims.

Dude! That is like the bomb of minis. Why have they not done a project like this. Could you use the center out of a mini losi for the emaxx look? That would be kicking looking.

So Mike, you think that the Lehner 4200 would be overkill for this project or nothing of the sort? I got the tc3 roller sorted out, although the other parts may be a bit of a problem.

I have a few more questions at the moment. How will I go about using rear buggy wheels on the car? Will I need some sort of adapters or new axles? I'll go for the rally conversion and I can easily drill new holes, but the chassis and steering layout might be a tad of a problem for me to make. I'm not sure where to begin. But until I know what length of the overall viechle I want, I really can't begin.

The HPI super Nitro rally wheels have the standard 2.2 hex and also fit the 1/10 buggy rear tires - piece of cake. I used a dogbone from an Hpi rs4mt(rear wheel dogbone I think) and built the chassis to that length(this took some time deciding as well, as I wanted to use what I had laying around, and finding a body for something longer than the truck currently is seemed impossible). The steering was also tricky, but I ended up using the tc3 steering, mounted to the custom front skidplate.
The 4200 would work quite well, though it doesn't need that kind of power(since when is it about "need" though!). I settled for a 380 sized Feigao(cheaper and actually a little larger than the lehner basic motor). I actually had a center diff at first, as well as dual motors like the full sized e-maxx, but settled for the single motor in the center(plenty).
I was gonna update it this winter, but may try my luck at a mini electric revo instead! Of course it all depends on time and motivation! I do have a few projects that need to happen first! I can take some measurements if you like, to help you along. I could probably even cut a chassis to make it pretty easy.

What's the wheel base on that? Also, what did you use for a center drive shaft?

The wheelbase is about 7". the center driveshaft is from the rear of an electric rs4mt.

Could you post a picture of the drivetrain, like the motor mount, how you set up the spur, etc? I might want to do this with my rally TC3, because I hardly ever drive it! Is the drivetrain durable with the tc3 stock diffs/dogbones?
