Rummy's Yota Truggy
I've been in and out of crawling and have recently been bit by the bug again. Had to slap a truck together to run in a comp a few weeks ago. So put together this truck. Didn't have the tube bed done yet so used a normal bed to be comp legal.
Bruiser's First Run http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...DSC_0159sm.jpg After the comp I tore it down and started building what I wanted in the first place. First I ditched the original bruiser cab since I knew I'd be beating on this truck and started work with a hilux cab. Did some trimming up front to make room for the new bumper. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...8/DSC_0165.jpg Been hacking away at some styrene for a while now. Since it's gonna be a truggy you'll be able to see the back of the cab. Thought I'd put some detail into it. Used a photo I found online of a 1:1 and just mimicked that. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...8/DSC_0163.jpg Set in place to see what it looks like. I'll smooth it out all out after the panel is attached to the cab. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...8/DSC_0164.jpg I was pretty pleased with the leaf springs in the comp. I needed a bit more to keep it stable though. So I decided to try a 3/4 elliptical setup. Seems like it could work out pretty good. Time and tuning will tell. I used a single bruiser spring up top. Only weight on the truck in this photo is the cab and tranny. Wheels aren't weighted. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...d/DSCF5111.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...d/DSCF5112.jpg Took a few minutes to mount the fair lead http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...d/DSCF5117.jpg Just got done making a drop down tranny plate out of 1/8" ABS. |
Any updates Nick? I like these builds, as they are actual "builds" not just "assemblies"!

Wow this is an old one. Actually A LOT has changed with this truck, including that it was sold
I can give you the cliff notes of the life as I owned it though! Here's the ABS transmission plate that was made http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...s/DSCF5124.jpg Fabbed a new front bumper out of a solid black plastic. Added D-rings, a modded 645 servo for a winch and a winch fairlead. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...e/DSCF5142.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...l/DSCF5195.jpg Did lots of body work. Filled holes with bondo, smoother out where logos were. Detailed the grill. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...y/DSCF5423.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...y/DSCF5424.jpg Started on a tubed bed http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...d/DSCF5475.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...d/DSCF5476.jpg Adding more in next post............ |
Fabbed the bed out of styrene and put diamond plate styrene on top of that
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...d/DSCF5481.jpg Lipo hidden under the belly http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...d/DSCF5489.jpg Bed mount for faux propane tanks http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...d/DSCF5490.jpg Added custom beadlocks and flat iron tires http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...s/DSCF5502.jpg Added some details to the bed http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...s/IMG_0092.jpg Gotta have air on the trail! http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...k/DSCF5569.jpg Then I decided to take the truck in a new path. We started doing team competitions in our local crawling group. So the trucks had to perform well. We were allowed to use winching also so I started a little redesign to help performance. More on next reply........ |
Decided to go with a flat bed.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...d/DSCF5951.jpg Added some tie down channels on the side and a fairlead on the back for the rear mounted winch http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...h/DSCF5973.jpg Mounted the rear winch under the bed. Swapped over to a small 3S 1300mah lipo that fit up front under the hood. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...h/DSCF5974.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...h/DSCF5978.jpg Painted the bed and sealed the balsa http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...d/DSCF5984.jpg Got the cab painted and added a snorkel http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...l/DSCF6016.jpg Added window channels to the rear and made some windows out of .030 clear PETG http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...l/DSCF6024.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...l/DSCF6054.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...l/DSCF6058.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...l/DSCF6064.jpg |
Here's video of it in action just on a little trail run. I don't have much video of it actually.......

Sweet, I really like your rear suspension setup, very innovative. Also the vid was cool, you have a nice crawling area there. Wish I had something here like that!

Do like these scale builds- attention to detail gives it a whole load of character that a normal MT & whatnot just doesnt quite have...
