What is the best BL 1/8 scale Setup? (need help)
Hello RcMonster!
I have been racing nitro for a couple of years now and have seen a few 1/8 scale E-conversions. I'm very interested in converting my 1/8 scale, but lacking in experience and knowledge! I really like what I'm seeing and feel the E-revolution will be here faster then we know, so I would love to hear what are the choices for ESC/Motor/LiPo combos with possible links? I have seen the CastleMMM on their site and Ive raced the MM 1/10 scale combo in my Lazer. Would the MMM be the best choice for my 1/8 scale!? What is the best E8 scale power-plant!? Any advise is greatly appreciated and Thank You for helping! Calvin |
Depending on the weight of the truck, i would suggest the MMM, or MM modded with a Neu 1515 1y on 4s lipo.

Welcome!...A buggy on 4s li-po is v/fast,...on 5s they are stupid fast. Nen motors are the best motors avail. because they are so efficient, smooth and durable. They are also the most expensive...quality comes w/a price. I have a 1512 1.5yF in my mbx-5 and it is perfect. If they are too expensive, look at the Medusa 60 series motors.
As far as esc goes, the MMM is the smoothest out there. It looks like they have worked out the bugs w/the controller and besides, their customer service is v/good. As far as li-po goes...Poly Quest and Thunder Power have Enerland cell, which many consider to be the best...but, v/expensive. Zippy Li-po are also used here by many w/good results. Hope this helps! |
After owning both an MGM and MMM, I Say MMM. Now with the updated firmware and the major issues fixed it is by far the best of the bunch. Sure you can go the MM with BEC route and what not but with the extra money spent adding an external bec you are basically in MMM price range and it is made to handle more amps and higher voltage.

Hey Tex?
I've seen your avatar many times but I just noticed he is wearing a MOTORHEAD shirt.:lol::lol::lol: Is that your boy? Lemmy Rules. :diablo: Oh yeah, btw get the new MMM. :mdr: |
4:4 say MMM... so thats what it will be! :whip:
I had a strong feeling that the MMM would be the most recommended. The MM is a killer combo for 1/10 scale, its only natural that the MONSTER will be the choice for ESC in a 1/8 scale! So, this is what is recommended so far: - Castle Monster MambaMax ESC. (assuming the latest version is the best choice)? - 4s or 5s Enerland cell LiPo. (from, Thunder Power)? What am I looking for as far as voltage? - Neu 1515 1y for a Motor. What about the Castle's Neu, some call it a knockoff? Will it be alright? 2200KV or 2650KV |

As far as the CC neu it is direct licensed by neu and done to their specs but built for cars/trucks. I would place my bet on it being a damn fine motor based on pedigree alone. It is hand wound and has a kevlar rapped rotor. |

4s =14.8V 5s = 18.5V On 5s a 1700-1900 kv is plenty in a buggy |
Thank You very much Gentlemen! Very warm welcome!
You all have been a big help in my decision! and I guarantee that I will have more questions soon! Calvin |
Hey Calvin, Im pretty local to you, I live in Niagara Falls and I'm pretty sure I've met you at Niagara RC, I believe at the pro series finals. I am fairly new to the 1/8 brushless scene myself but have a pretty good setup going on in my CEN Matrix TR. I have gathered quite a bit of info that may be helpful to you, if you want shoot me a pm and I can give you a hand.

Thanks Chris, PM sent...
Rumors say that Xray is releasing an E-conversion for the 808 sometime soon *((crossing fingers))* would love to have the "factory" setup. Although some of you guys have some pretty sweet custom layouts! |
FYI, this is the winter project!! E-XB808

Nice Ride there! Welcome to the forums.
I'm not sure if I'm too late, but for the motor, I'd suggest a 1512 2.5D on 4s for racing. Its a little lighter than the 1515 series and will have more than enough power to get your 808 flying around the track without getting hot. |
^ Sounds like a great setup. I'd go with a 4s 4300 25c or a 4s 3900 25c, because they're on sale. Link:
