will the ammo 28-35-5100 fit on my rc18mt
i have this chassis :
http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_...cat_name=RC18T will the ammo 28-35-5100kv fit? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLWY2&P=7 also, will this motor pull too much amps for the sidewinder micro esc? i am using zippys 2100 3s lipos. if this motor fits, can you guys tell me what pinion i will need to get in the low 40's mph. im am using the stock 60t spur. |
I would say that it will be too big, and way too much power. IIRC the spurs are .5 mod, and 48 pitch METRIC pinions will fit the 1/8 shaft on that motor. The diameter of the motor is most likely too big, and you gearing choices will be limited.

I'm running an Ammo 28-35-4900 on 2s in my Kyosho Mini Inferno which is a larger/heavier vehicle than the RC18 and the Ammo has tons of power. I am mostly racing indoor carpet with it and its more than enough power for what I need, I have a feeling that 28-35-5100 will be a little too much motor for the RC18, but I suppose it depends on what you are doing with it. I can't really comment on whether it will fit or not. Im also going to be building one with a Neu 1105/2y, that should be insane!
Edited to fix typo in motor number |

ok from the sound of things. the ammo is way too powerful on 3s for my rc18mt. i got another motor offered to me...hows this motor:
http://b-p-p.com/product.php?product...&cat=31&page=1 the one for sale is a 5000kv. would anybody know what size pinion i would need with a 60t spur on 3s lipo to hit low 40's mph? |
18T uses .5 metric pitch, 48 pitch gears are close and will work, but I would not do it, as it can cause a bit more drag on the gears. Just get the right gears, lots of people make them.
The long Hyperion motors are supposed to be good, I think the diameter should be OK, check that the length will fit though. |

ive seen some pinions on ebay. their made by venom....dunno how good those pinions are though. this website called The Toyz carries a few pinions as well.
im still trying to figure what size pinion i need to hit the low 40's. on brians calculator, there isnt a preset for the rc18mt. dunno how to fill those in. i bought the truck used with no instruction manuel. |
Here's some info to help you out. These numbers are based off stock associated parts.
Fr/Rr Diff Ratio: 35/14 (2.5) Tranny: 1/1 (direct) Spur: 55, 60 Pinion: X Tire diameter: 2.39 in (18T) 2.6 in (18MT) Balooning radius: .25 in (best guess) As for pinions... its much easier to find pinions for a 3.2mm shaft motor. I know all about the horrors of trying to find a 2.3mm 48p standard (.5 mod, imperial, or whatever people are calling it now days) pinion. Its literally impossible. The best option I've found is a 3.2mm-2.3mm bore reducer. Those work well, but no one makes them anymore. Maybe you can get Mike to custom make a few for you. Worse comes to worst, use copper tubing. |
I'm soon going to have 4 pole 24mm motors for the micros. Here is a video of me testing a 6000Kv in my Recoil: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXhGr2IuxUg. That motor is now in my MLST. I have the 7500Kv in the Recoil now, but still didn't race with it yet. The 9000Kv one will be ballistic and I'm only going to use that to test my 40A micro ESC that will soon be here as well.

thanks for those info rschoi. just the data i needed. nice lil motors you got there lutach. i may already have a motor by then...not too sure, i may just keep the motor i have in there now. the huge fan i installed helps with the temps alot.
how much would those 24mm be selling for....you know yet? do they tend to get hot? |
