Installing gold plugs on motor wires??
Hey fellas,
Im in the proccess of installing the 6.5mm CC plugs on my Neu motor. But the wires seem to be too big to fit in the plugs. Has anyone come across this before? Should i drill out the plug, or trim the circumference of the wire down a little bit? Its only to big by about 1-1.5mm. I probably should have asked this a bit earlier, ive already wrecked one plug trying to drill it out :grrrrrr: thanks for the help guys jordan |
What gage wire are you using? I try to stay away from cutting some of the wire strands. What I usually try to do first is use pliers to squish the wire a little smaller. And just try to stick it in. :wink: Maybe remove some extra solder from the wire as well.

thanks jnev, well im pretty sure its 8 guage wire, which going by the packet, should fit, but its a little to big. I've tried to squish em, but they're pretty solid, i'll try a bit harder though, see if that works :wink:

Well i've squished as much as i can, and its not going to go in, its still a little to big, any other ideas guys? :neutral:

How much brazing / solder do you have on the motor wires prior to going into the plugs??..
I’ve never had this issue but than again the largest Neu I have a 1515 3d. Shit that just sucks.. I would hate to say cut the wires down, (for what it’s worth) I’ve got a drill press at home and can fab you up some this weekend if that helps ??.:neutral: but I’m traveling all week thou so it wont go out until next Monday.. :eyes: Sorry Jordan, Call Mike and ask him or PM metalman.. That’s bites!.. Best of luck sir.. |
That must be a reeeeeeally high kv motor to not fit in 6.5mm plugs.:whistle:

Only 2300kv :whistle:

No worries Shaun, i think i'll just drill them out myself. I figure new plugs are $6, compared to a new motor which is $250+, so might as well drill the plugs rather than cut the motor wires. |
you could use bigger plugs;
:neutral: some here on the cheap..... http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6580 |

the wires are pre tin so you could take a dremal with a sanding drum and take down the solider just enough to fit inside the bullets it should be fine
