my 8ight-e convert open to sugestion...
hey guys...
I just bought an 8ight on a whim :lol: (damn you DickyT!):diablo: (link to sell thread) I was wondering if you guys would help me with the BL conversion. I figured some of you have had yours for awhile and you may have some tips for me.:neutral: I was looking for diff fluid suggestions. I have never needed to "tune" a diff, and from what I understand....its kindof a different animal on brushless. Feel free to school me, or point me to some good reading. I still have not bought a mount yet, but I think I'm going for the rcm one. I did notice mike has the new losi kit.....any thoughts? Looks pretty strait forward...I just dont want to get stuck with limited gearing options. I will be running it on a tekno neu 1515/1y using TRC 4s lipo and my MMMv3 pulled from the e-revo (its getting a kb45 8xl and will be sporting lutech's 10s....different project:whistle:). I would like to figure my gearing for about 40-45mph. Also, any tips or tricks you can throw my way will be appreciated. I'm pretty green to this buggy...well,... all buggies. I'm not a racer, so i'll probably skip the whole electro clutch thing as I will be using the reverse to get out of trouble. Also, i guess that means no mech brakes. These ideas are not in stone yet...just the way i'm leaning. Why the 8ight? ....Well, DickyT is a new friend I have met through the boards here. We both have/had e-revos. He just bought a mugen mbx5r. So I figured I would buy a buggy too, but wanted to get something a bit different. The price was right and the 8ight I found looked clean and well taken care of. Maybe not the best buggy...but the only way I will ever be able to compair is if I start somewhere. So, the 8ight it is. Thanks for your help. ~jarrad |

2 most common diff fluid setups in the 8ight is 7/10/3 or 5/10/2.
The Losi BL Kit is a good kit for the price. Should look at getting a Kyosho Nylon Gear as the Losi metal one would be pretty loud. You will have to run the 44T Kyosho Spur ( http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail.php?prod=KYOIF147 ) as you would have to run spacers under the diff mounts to be able to use the 46T Kyosho Gear. But if the noise of metal to metal doesn't bother you than you can just keep the standard 45T spur. Any reason why you want to run a 1515? Most usually run a 1512 in a buggy. Tekno/Impakt have the new 1512 Sealed Cans coming out very soon (maybe 1 - 3 weeks) Not sure on the height difference between the Losi and MMM esc but the ESC mount is behind the battery tray on the Losi kit. I think the MMM would probably hit the body so you may need the 8-E body LOSA8097. Someone who has the Losi kit and MMM esc maybe able to confirm this though. |

I assume being brushless, that the oils are heavier than usual. I'll look at the kyosho gears, I think that the losi mount and the monster mount both come with spacers to put under the diff mount. The 1515 is sitting in my e-revo right now, and I dont really have the $$ to drop on a 1512. Its a Tekno Neu. I know its a bit on the large side, is there a big negative to that? I'll try the body that comes with the buggy, but if it doesn't fit I'll look into the other one. Thanks man. |
I got the losi conversion on my 8ight and if you have the older V1 MMM with the battery wires and motor wires soldered to the board you will have zero clearance issues...however if you have the bullets soldered onto the board the MMM bullets will touch the body....but...you can solder the wires onto the bullets as some on this forum have already done b/c the extra male bullet on the other end of the wires raises the height of the bullet connector area and it hits the rear portion of the stock body/Jconcepts Illuzions body....Or you can just get an 8ight-e body and not have to worry about clearance issues....AND Driftbuggy means that the diff weights in the front/center/rear are 5,000/10,000/7,000...

and to further add the 1512 will lighten your buggy and it will be easier to control in the air and on jumps....i used to run the 1515 1/y in my 8ight and it had crazy power adn stayed extremely cool but it handled a little wierd...after i got a 1512 it handles a lot better and the 1512 has plenty of power don;t let the small size fool you :) ...

The Medusa v2 60mm 2000kv motor is also super effecient brushless and a LOT lighter of a motor.. perfect for buggies. Other kv's are also available and about 1/2 the cost of the Neu and just about as effecient.

i didnt realise the weight difference between the 1515 and the 1512 was so significant. I doubt I'm good enough of a driver to notice, but when I get more $$ I'll throw down.
I just bought a CRT.5, this buggy, lutechs esc, a kb45 for the e-revo, and other misc hobby items so i need to slow down a bit. I'll be ok with the 1515/1y in the buggy for now. |

I live about as far aways as you can get from him in the US and he still almost had me buying a crawler. I had to shake him for a while. I couldn't keep the pace up after the e-revo, the next I knew he had a couple more builds going. Good to see you taking up the slack. |
It is pretty easy to make any MMM it fit under any 8ight-b lid.. you simply trim the mounting plate that comes in the tekno kit in 1/2, make a couple new wire holes and then shave off the inside mounts for the transponder. Use some good mounting tape to adhear the transponder to the underside of the shortened mounting plate.

I put a couple pictures of the mount I made out of lexan in this thread. Gives you another option to customize your 8ight. Takes a while to get use to using 8 instead of e.
