Neu 1512, 1.5d on 5s

Is the motor can be run on 5s without problems???
It's 3300Kv:whistle:
Want to put it in my Turmoil Pro 1/8 scale buggy:wink:

brushlessboy16 11.06.2008 07:59 PM

thats 69,000rpm.. wayyy too high...
plus you would have a fun time gearing that thing down for reasonable speed and amp draw..
best bet is to get a lower kv motor

David, you're crazy!

I did it a couple of times in my rc8. Got it up to 70mph with JHautz's GPS strapped to the wing. Probably could have got up to 80+ had I been able to keep it at full throttle for more than .5 second. The tires basically blew off the rims after two or three runs and it was impossible to keep the front end down. I went through like four sets of tires in about 10 minutes.

Fun while it lasted though!

That is a great motor on 4s for speed runs and bashing. It is way too much power if you plan on racing. Not very long run time, but on 4s it is ballistic. Can easily get the car up to about 60. 12-15 minutes of run time.

I am presently running 3500kv on 5S in a LOSI 8T with foams. About 75ish on the radar. No runtime though due to the heat of the motor though. About 8-10 passes of about 1000 feet.

For the speed runs I was using a Zippy-H 5s 5000 & 4000 packs. I used to race with a 4s 5000 packs and a 3s 8000 & 3s 6000 pack. On 3s the car the motor would still smoke a nitro pretty easily. On 4s you had to run stupidly low pinions 9-12 tooth to keep the car from being too fast. It pulled way too many amps to run on 3s reliably. It puffed a 3s 6000 polyquest pack after a couple of races. The 3s 8000 (maxamps) took it like a champ though.

Whoa! That's gotta be a first! Maybe the higher internal resistance of the MA cells helped in this case...

So i'am best to keep it on 4s??
But is this motor on 4s in an 1/8 scale buggy will pull to much amps if i gear it for about 40m/h?

No, and many people have proven that 4s with a 1512 1.5d is a great buggy setup.

Edumakated 11.07.2008 09:55 AM

On 4s the motor is fine. However, if all you want to run is around 40-45mph, there are much better choices that will be more efficient and yield better run times. The 1.5d is very hard on the ESC and batteries. If you want to run 4s I would recommend the 1512 2.5d (2050kv) and just gear it up for the speed you want. It will run almost twice as long as the 1.5d. Or better yet, run the 2.5d on 5s or 6s.

Brian;

To run 3s, you really need a 8000mah pack. That motor was just to amp hungry and the 6000 pack was straining. My packs would come off the track after 10 minutes of racing at 125-140 degrees.

Or i will simply keep my first idea, put this 1512, 1.5d on my crt.5 on 4s. Like that, with the light weight of the crt.5, it will not pull too much amps and my run time will be longer.

And i will put a nitro engine on my turmoil:neutral:
