Slayer or SC8..cost vs performance
 

If I were to pick one up to do a conversion on either, here's kind of how I think pricing would work out:

So, is the SC8 really worth $230 more in the long run? Consider that either would be used as a basher, or possibly an occasional run a track.

Or should I just scrap the idea for either and convert a RC8 to beat up? :mdr:

In my opinion the slayer is nothing more that a revo with narrow arms :lol:.

The sc8 has a more real world or scale look . It is basically a RC8T with buggy arms & a cool roll cage . I think either would be fun . But so would a RC8 . I hope that helps. :lol:

go with the sc8...my bullydog arrives yesterday and now all i'm waiting for is the motor mount form mike....IMO I used to have a converted revo 3.3 and it was a great basher BUT i think is was hard to wrench on b/c its a PIA to access the front/rear diffs....the center tranny is pretty cool and I had it stuck in 2nd gear so that I could run reverse BUT access to the tranny is not as hard as the front/center diffs but still hard IMO....and I ran the single steering servo setup and even though I had the servo guards on it i still managed to break a few servo arms....AND trying the replace/rebuild the shocks was a PIA as well...needless to say I sold it and have had an 8ight/8ight-t/and muggy and i definitely like the center diff setup plus the servo is protected a little better since its inside the chassis....and access to build/replace the shocks are easier....so your basically looking at a truggy with buggy arms vs. a revo with "buggy length" arms......IMO you'll love the scale looks of the sc8....however I have yet to drive either so I really can't tell you about how each handles.....hopefully my sc8 conversion will be done by next week...

Sure would be easier to afford a SC8 if I hadn't given you such a good deal on that motor. :lol:

the biggest part you missed is the cost of putting 1/8 scale diffs into the revo. add that in and they both cost the same.

if you are just planning on bashing i would go slayer, if your going to race it the 8 will be much better on the track

I always find it funny on the Traxxas stuff how it's just a (insert name here) with this or that changed while most other car companies vehicles are the same way.

Anyway, I would think for bashing the Slayer as you will have higher ground clearance. Besides since you aren't really after racing that 230 could be used many other places.

If people are really concerned with scale looks and appearance my suggestion is to build a scale rc because none of major sellers out there look anything near scale. The SC8 would need so many changes to have the true look of a scale baja truck it's really no different than the Slayer in my opinion in the appearance department.

I don't believe that's a necessity. Tons of folks are using BL power in E-Revos without shredding the stock diffs enough to warrant a $125 change to 1/8th diffs. So, I don't see that as part of the cost equation.

I would go with the SC8, much tougher drivetrain design and no transmission.

Only reason I'd go for the SC8 would be to have those wheels. Otherwise it'd be Slayer.

Check out what the scaler rock crawler guys build and you will see my point. The SC8 is no more scale than the Slayer when you add it all up.

Also note what Metalman said exactly. Both models are loose representations and nothing more.
