Track time with the monster
 

Ran for about 15 minutes on capital rc track today. WOW power on tap. only thing is i get gome tonight and am cleaning the car and hear a rattle inside the monster case. Hmmmmmm.... so i open it carefully and see that the small black rectangular componet on the board next to the bec coil is laying in the bottom of the case. dont know what it is but the monster still runs! dont know how or why it got there but this is important peice? other than this freak occurance the car was blazing fast. turned the double double into a quad, musch to everyones surprise!

sounds likethe fan plug.does the fan still work?

Are you talking about the component that is between the edge of the board and the BEC inductor?

Might also be nice what version it is, or better yet, a pic...

The fan plug is white so I doubt that's it.

From looking at the V1 and V2 layouts, I would say it's either one of the FETs (unlikely as the BEC would probably fail completely), the transistor right by the fan plug (which looks like the method the circuit uses to switch the fan on/off), or the resistor (I think) right next to the BEC FETs.

Well if we are guessing what it is......I would say its a V3 and that the component is the TVS that is located next to the inductor. :)

I had a small rectangular object on the bottom of the case too (didnt open the case, it opened by itself after a jump:). Soldered it back and the esc works again. 5 batteries after that and counting. :)

The case opened today again, so i glued it. Im glad as long as the esc works.

sorry everyone, wasnt real specific earlier. its a v3 and yes it is the small rectangular componet between the coil and the edge of the pcb.

AH YES, that is the TVS -- or Transient Voltage Suppressor.

That is a sacrificial part that will shut down the BEC output if the voltage exceeds about 7.5V out on the BEC. (That's a new part on the V3 -- and it's a little fragile where it is mounted. We are moving it slightly on the next revision of the control board. And no, that DOESN'T mean there is a V4 MMM (internally, we are on rev H on the MMM I think....)

So -- not something that is required for normal running, but would be nice to have on the board if the BEC shorted out.
