anyone done a custom chassis e-revo conversion?
 

As the title suggests has any body here done a custom electric revo conversion, cause i am currently thinking of doing one! i thinking about designing a chassis on a CAD program, like a cross between the gorillamaxx G3R and the 'kershaw designs' e-revo LCG replacement chassis.

Then getting it laser cut...:yipi:

Any ideas would be appreciated?:yes:

BomBProof made a nice chassis from the Revo 3.3 chassis and a 3905 tranny- some custom welding and painting later and it turned out beautifully. There was also another CF chassis with custom parts, but that was a prototype that never went into production I believe, also very nice looking and based on the 3.3 chassis.

It would take a helluva laser to cut metal.

that is a nice setup, but its not the one i was referring to. It was defiantly laser cut aluminum plate just like the G3R but it was is own design... actually i think i saved one of his photos he put in the post....

Meaning its much more efficient to cut part like that using a waterjet or a CNC mill. To effectively cut AL that thick, you'd need a power supply and accelerator tube that would take up a 50'x'50' room.

Looks pretty much like a Gmaxx ripoff to me. Only difference is the center diff holder and some minor changes that really are just cosmetic. All the plates are the same configuration, just slighty different details in them. If the reason you are looking for this is to get the center dif, send Mike an email. He can make a center diff style motor mount like that for the G3R chassis. Its originally designed by Dafni, but Mike makes them by request I believe. If you go that route then you can at least get replacement parts if you need them.

I remember that build well- it was steel though that he used and not aluminum for the prototype, but he never made any more, and sold the truck not too long ago. i dont have a link to the thread anymore, but it was called something like 'Revo self design frame'. Wasnt ment to be a Gorillamaxx ripoff as such, but there method of attachig the chassis to the bulks was the best really, so...

Whoah horsey. I cut 6065 and 7075 all the time on our 4400 watt bystronic laser and our 2600 watt trumpf laser. There was never an issue with speed and tolerances could be held to virtually that of a mill. Your laser operator has to know how to set it up correctly to get a clean cut but it is much more efficient and expidious than other methods. The power supply nor the tube took up anywhere near 50 x 50 and we could cut 1" thick carbon steel them. The unit holding the resonator and other equipment was about 15' long, 8' high, and 3' wide.

Really? I'll have to have our MR&D folks look into upgrading theirs.

Thanks, It really is a great setup. I can run lap times with that revo that would put me in the truggy a-main. I actually dont really race it much becasue it just isnt fair kicking butt that bad. It looks a bit different now, that was right after I installed that center diff mount going on a couple years ago. Its got quite a few more miles on it now. lol. But it still kicks butt on the track.

Just put Slaydens setup on it, with the traxxas wing mount and sway bars and you are ready to rock. I reccomend going to the RC-Monster 1/8 f/r diff setup for it also. The stock revo diffs are pretty tall gearing for MT size tires and a 44T direct drive center diff gear. The RCM 1/8 diff setup for it drops the gearing down into the perfect range for running the direct drive center diff. With the 1/8 diff setup I found 7/30/5 dif fluids to be very good on most tracks.

I hate to sound like I'm boasting, but I really do love that truck.

It's treu that I sold it!
I liked to building of it but I didn't really enjoy the riding with it.
I did finish it do.

The final chassis was made of 7075 Alu.

If there are any questions about it I would like to hear them!
