just finised my pede build, thought ill share some pics. running a mm esc, cc bec, novak 4.5 motor and a flightpower 5000 mah 3s evo 25 lipo..
Very nice, what run time and what temps do you get?
Hey Nice build, :intello:
Did you upgrade the output shaft to 5mm?? If not you might want to get one just incase that the one brakes.. How heavy is the pede?? Please- Do let us know on the temps.. my 4.5 ran rather hot so I wish you better luck than what I had. AND! Welcome to the Monster!.. :yipi::yipi: |
yeah its the 5mm shaft. temps are 112 motor, 96 esc, 98 lipo geared 12-58. run time, im guess right about 30 +- doing high speed bashing on asphalt . im guess it weighs about 7lbs. its 12.5" wheelbase. drive ultra stable, of course except for the wheeie on demand at any speed..lol
Those are pretty good temps
got any videos???
Nice Pede.I ran a 4.5 in mine for quite awhile.I loved it.I ran a wide variety of gearing, all the way up to 35/76, and could never get it above 125.How do you like that motor paired with the MM?
Nice - I would look at the shock mod I performed for speedpede
Nice.

You can run sensored motors on sensorless escs.
You cant run sensorless motors on sensored escs. A sensored motor is just a sensorless one with sensor- its much more to do with the esc rather than the motor you use- different methods of detecting the rotor posistion inside the motor (sensors vs back EMF signals). There are folks running 6s lipo in pedes and rusties..... |
The KV rateings on the HV motors are pretty high (3000kv and higher) arent these numbers a bit high for a monster truck? Is that why a Stampede and such lightweight vehicles are better suited for this setup?

The novak motors have a smaller diameter rotor than a feigao xl or neu. Thus they lack the torque to pull higher gearing. So they are higher kv and spin faster, and can use lower gearing in order to achieve similar power levels. The novak motors are much more effecient than a feigao, so the 35k rpm limit does not really apply to them. Whether it is better to run a higher kv motor with a smaller rotor fast or a motor with a larger diamter rotor slower remains to be seen. We generally aim for 35-40k rpm max due to the fact that most nitro motors run a bit slower than that, and factory gearing can be used. Makes it easier for people who are less expierenced, and almost gaurantees a cool running setup. Now the neu motors have large rotors and are built well enough to survive high rpms while still retaining decent effecientcy. So they can produce more power than the novak. I would say that a novak hv motor is about as good as a 1512 size motor, such as the 60mm medusa. I still think a 3000kv 60mm medusa will outperform a novak 6.5hv though... |

this motor on 3s is perfect. i could gear it for 70mph+ and it will still run cool with loads of tourqe. im not done with shocks yet, found some 7lb springs i want fot the rear. oh i can run 5s lipo, but THAT would be uncontrollable... no vids yet, just finised the build. and ill time my run time today...

Ive always heard and read that the 4.5 HV had a reputation for running hot, but it was always in a 10+ lb monster truck. Based on what you folks are saying this motor in an under 6 lb truck is right on time?
