Ground BL motors??
Folks, something to discuss here. BK now supplies a short manual with their motors. They mention that if you have interference caused by the motor (?) you should connect the motor screws to the minus of the batts, so to say ground the motor!?
How about that? They say this should be done especially on CF hulls. What do you think? Connecting the minus to the chassis?? |
Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me! :L:
Well, it sounds like a bunch of.. KABLOOEY to me! :L:
Traxxas does ground their EZ-Start system to the motor mount though.. |
Mtroniks brushless controllers use a schottky diode between each motor connector and the -ve battery terminal. Something similar?
Real cars have grounds everywhere to cut down interference on radios so it makes sense.
True, but this is a first for bl motors. Well, I havent experienced any inteference, unless the Bk glitches more then feigao
perhaps it is more about staticl electricity! That would make sence. I can't imagine they believe a .5mm thick aluminum/cf shell is able to keep any radiation inside when isolated on this way..
But wiring the minus to the chassis or motorscrews??
static electricity...? think Einstein...
Sure, I see. But I just don't like the idea of wiring the batt directly to the chassis.
Here is what the short manual says (and, yeah, it sounds kinda weird in german, too): --If you experience interferences from the motor over the controller, please connect a 1.5m2 wire from the motor (screws) to the batt minus, thus the motor is grounded. (often recommended on CF hulls) The german text is somewhat confusing, too. Really. DAF |
I don't see a problem with a little more securityagainst interference, it may also increase range by reducing EMF from the motor.
hmm, could u do that with other motors?
you think that that thin piece of aluminum is capable of reducing any EMF, just by connecting it to the ground?
I can't see how the aluminium chassis could ground the motor very well. And what will grounding do to the other electronics attched to the chassis??
I wonder what Mike has to say on this!?
