MM and Auto-Lipo only good for 2 or 3s lipo?

I just noticed in the manual that the auto-lipo is only good for 2 and 3 cell lipos. I've used the auto-lipo also on my 4s setups since I've had MM's. I guess I am lucky that I hardly ever run my lipos until the cut off point. I usually swap them with a new pack when I feel the time is getting close.

When I plug everything on a 4s setup I still get the 4 beeps for number of cells of lipos. What does the MM use for a lvc if I use the auto-lipo with a 4cell setup?

i think it works normal on 4s just like 2 or 3s. it is 5s it will not work on.

Thanks auto2. I only had one problem running 4s on a mm with the auto setting. I had a maxamps swell up on me. Don't know if it was just it's time or had anything to do with the cutoff set at auto. I am going to set the setting for 4s on the mm just in case.

Can anyone confirm if the auto setting work on 4s with a mm?

You other RCMers out there that use 4s on your MM's. What lipo setting are you running the auto or something else?

Maybe one of the CC guys can give a definate answer to this.

Thanks for the input.

Set the custom cut of. The auto lipo setting is to low IMO anyway. It sets it for 3v/cell. Thats too low. I would set a custom setting for at least 3.2v/cell to keep your lipos healthy and happy. for 4s 12.8v/cell in the custom setting.

This is why there should be a user selectable voltage cutoff for auto-lipo or at least have a 3.2v per cell option. I cannot think of any reason why castle can't do this or hasn't done this yet.

One question, you does my MM cut off when my 2s battery gets to about 6.6-6.8v (3.3-3.4v per cell) when it's set to cut off at 6.2 (3.1v per cell)?

jhautz 11.19.2008 10:40 PM

Proabably becasue when its under load the voltage drops down to the cutoff voltage and when you stop running the voltage comes back up a bit when the battery is not under load.

hemiblas 11.19.2008 10:40 PM

The battery is probably at 6.8 but when you start up the motor inrush probably makes it drop to 6.2 for a brief instant tripping the lvc. So when you start the truck there is a huge inrush and volts drop fast. That is what trips the lvc. Once the pack is back to normal with no load it will read the higher voltage.

One time I measured the voltage with my charger while it was under a load and I can say, the MM kept my 3s pack at roughly 9.6 volts when it was set for 9.3 volts. Not a bad thing at all.

My MM works on auto lipo for 4S but I usually use the manual setting.

Just wanted to add to this that while I was setting up the lipo in Castle link I actually hit the help ? button on the cut off section. It doesn't state in there anything about on using the auto cutoff for 2s or 3s only. The printed manual that I read was what got me to start this thread. It indicated the auto cutoff was for 2 or 3s only. I am sure that has all be corrected in the firmware upgrades and CC has made the auto cutoff to work like it should for how many cell it finds. I'm positive the printed imanual is out of date and the online help is more accurate.
