My SC8 conversion to brushless
Built this for my non mechanically inclined brother inlaw.
He spent some big bucks, did have a $100.00 off tower coupon though. Used a castle BEC, and a mamba max as well as one of those turnigy 2200kv motors from hong kong. $38 bucks RC Monster motor mount, center diff spun around backwards and allows 2 batteries. Darn I'm good :na: Ha ha, he hasn't even seen it done yet, I have driven it twice, soooo sweeeet So here are some pics http://myrcmt.com/review/images/gall...dbullmount.jpg http://myrcmt.com/review/images/gall...redbull001.jpg http://myrcmt.com/review/images/gall...redbull005.jpg http://myrcmt.com/review/images/gall...redbull010.jpg http://myrcmt.com/review/images/gall...redbull014.jpg http://myrcmt.com/review/images/gall...redbull007.jpg . |
What battery are you using? What temp does the motor run at?

Wow, you really use those non-brand Chinese packs in a $700 truck?

NICE!! For the not so mechanically inclined. New press release for Christmas.

glad they are making one, but all that battery weight on one side of the chassis will make left to right balance WAY off.
Left to right turns will handle funny, and everytime you get airborn it'll want to roll over in the air |
Not at all really, most BL conversions run the batts on one side of the truck, and no-one has performed that stunt from 'Thunderball' yet. Lipos will way alot less than nimhs, hence why it will work fine- you would have issues mounting enough nimhs in the truck all on one side though, so thankfully they cant be used and so wont mess up the balance.
Let us know how those lipos work out (temps and runtime until lvc is hit); they seem rather cheap for the rated specs... |
I've watched a few converted 1/8ths run and some, not all suffer with the battery on one side.
Why not split it side to side like I did, plenty of room and balance is better. It makes no sense to put it all to one side when you can see there is enough room to balance things out and have plenty enough room for many motor options. 80mm cans no problem with my layout. :gasp: |
I think 99% of the time it depends on the layout of the vehicle, often there isnt enough room for the batteries to go on either side and the motor upfront/at the rear etc. Plus, most guys also run one large 4s lipo, rather than a pair of 2s lipos in series, so you cant split the weight with a lipo on either side...
I like the idea of a motor in the middle above the center diff, then a lipo on either side- even cleaner layout, but it requires more fabrication for a custom motor mount and trimmed braces etc. |
Great job williamg on the sc8. Can you tell me what motor mount you used from rc monster. I can't seem to find it. Also, confirming you just spun around the center diff and that was it to get the motor on the other side ?? Thanks
|
yes, the RC8 motor mount you are correct http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...od=RCMRC8mount
And I just removed the cener diff, installed the rc-monster RC8 motor mount spun the whole assemble around and bolted it back in. No modding no drilling just perfect, |
i wouldnt give it to him. just tell him someone stole it lol. i want one of those trucks so bad.
|
I ended up building one for myself. Used christmas money. Setup exact same way.

|
Excellent work. It makes me want an sc8. Maybe I an afford one in 2012.
