Tekno NEU 1515/1/Y/F problem.

Maybe someone here knows whats up while I wait to here from NEU. I was running my Losi 8-T with MMM and Tekno NEU 1515/1/Y/F, geared 10/50 on 5s. Just doing some speed passes in the parking lot. I was bringing the truck back to me and let off the throttle when it suddenly slowed like the brake was on. Last time this happened the magic smoke came out of the ESC. Not this time, no smoke, no smells.

So I went home pulled the motor out, chassis rolled free as ever, motor even felt free, until I squeezed the three wires going into the motor together. When I squeezed the wires, not a hard squeeze by the way, the rotor would barley turn. So I sent it in to NEU since it's still under warranty.

Anybody have any ideas what may have happened?

If by squeezing the wires together, you mean shorting the leads together, that's normal. Try it with any other motor you have laying around, it'll do the same thing.

Sounds like maybe the insulation is worn through on the motor wires, so they are shorting together on the motor can- that will make them very difficult to turn as it creates a natural hand-brake effect between the phases.. or something like that.

That is what it sounds like.

I mean when I squeeze them together I mean with no power supplied to them. Motor out if the vehicle not connected to anything. Almost like something with the windings inside the can, as if they are loose. I don't know, I guess NEU will tell me then I can post their findings here.

Mine does the same thing it's NORMAL . Just make sure you insulate the plugs real good when you reinstall the motor . I double insulated my plugs .

All brushless motors should do that.

Cool so I sent the motor in and won't have it back for two weeks for nothing. Awesome.

Theres still something not right, maybe they will replace the bearings while they have it.

i just had a 1515/1y teckno neu fail today too !!

the first one i had fail about a month ago . i pulled it apart to clean and the brass spacer wasnt on the shaft properly and it took out the windings about 3 battery packs later .. they wouldnt cover warranty even thou the motor was only a month or 2 old !!!

today another one failed .. never been opened and seems that 1 phase has shorts in it !! same symptoms as 1st post .. felt like drag brake was on. Took the motor out and clearly see 1 phase has been drawing lots more current. again this motor is less than10 packs old . If they dont cover warranty i will be surely angry !!

please let us know about your motor , and if covered under warranty

Sorry to hear that, at least I'm not the only one with the problem. Fingers crossed on the warranty, but I have a feeling I know how this will go down.

Funny thing, I guess, I switch from nitro to brushless to avoid crappy $250.00 + motors (engines) and still the same problem. Bone stock Slash has been the most fun I've had in about a year.
