1/8 Diff Oils
What are you guys running in your diffs for oils ? I will be running a Hyper 7 w/ a Feigao 10xl, 6s a123, and MMM. I will mainly be bashing, but will run on the track once in a while too.
|
Not exactly typical, but I run 3k in rear, 5k in the front, and 50k in the center (to tame front tire ballooning), but this is more of a track setup.
In my MBX5r (CORR conversion), I run 5k in rear, 7k in front, and 100k in center. This is more of my basher vehicle. Turning doesn't seem to be adversely affected too much and the center really helps reduce ballooning in the front. |
i run 5k front 7k center 3k rear
|
5K Front, 50K center, & 3K rear for both my buggy & truggy.
|
5KR, 10KC, 5KF but I only backyard bash at the moment and I am not going to go out my way to buy diff oils. I may try 30k in the center, though 10k is fine most of the time.
|
5k in front, 120k in center and 3k in the rear.
Definitely go with heavy center fluid, my 8XL was running very hot while running 10k in the center!! Front end was unloading terribly |
7k front, 30k center, 5k rear
|
Im currently running 5K 10K 3K but thinking of trying out 15K in the centre
|
For bashing I run 30k in the center diff, and grease the front and rear diffs. Works well enough for me and it's cheaper than buying more oil.

i run 5k front 5k center 2k rear.

7k front, 100k center, 5k rear

Wow thanks for all the replies everyone. Seems like everyone uses a different setup then one another... I think it will be a more trial and error thing.
Looks like I will use something heavier in the center though. |
Generally, BL power has so much torque that it's easy to unload the front and balloon those front tires. Not to mention that power is then wasted going to nothing.
If racing, a looser setup is better since you aren't as concerned with raw power as driveability (and cornering), but bashing is a different story. |
Thanks for the input again guys, I have chosen to go with this setup for starters:
7k in the front, 50k in the center, and 5k in the rear. |
5/7/2 on the buggy
7/12/3 on the truggy If you go too high on the center dif fluid you loose alot of off power steering on the turn in. Makes it hard to drive on the track IMO. I would rather run a more normal dif fluid weight in the center dif and controll the tire balooning with my throtle finger than give up the turning. Makes it hard to turn a fast lap if every corner you are forced to go wide cuz you dont have any off power steering. Just my opinion. If you are parking lot, or schoolyard running, then yea load up on the center diff, it makes the most of your forward traction and acceleration and more fun for really getting the most from the brushless power. |
