Brushless J-savage

The Jasper savage! :D

I bought about 3 months ago an second hands savage from a guy out of my country, Holland :D

It comes with:

- Dual disk brake
- Spider diff, fron/rear
- HD center cups and dogbones
- Stock HPI servo for steering and braking

With some extra parts:

Then I ordered some stuff from Mike:

- Feigao 7XL
- Warrior 9920
- Dace 23mm hexes
- Hummvee urban body
- Pro-line bowtie 40 serie
- Pro-line white wabash HD 40 serie rims

I bought via the German ebay some 5,5mm gold plugs.

Then I began to polish all the purple anodized parts on my truck.

The difference between polishing and not polishing.

After that I went to a aluminium shop in my village and bought some aluminium. The U vorm is 40x40x4mm. I drilled some holes in it to attach it to the chassis. The accutrays are hanging so low as possible for extra low CG.

The worst off the savage is the radio box! I really don't like this big, ugly thing! So I build my own steeringbox from a plate of 2mm aluminium and a chassis brace from HPI.

I put some rubber stuff (in Holland we use this to make pools in your own garden, not for swimming) on the accu tray. So the batterys will not deadshorted

The esc arrives!

I made a motormount for the 7XL motor:

The esc gets a save place under a U form from 1mm aluminium

Here are the first looks. Ignore the wires :p

Too bad the IMG tags doesn't work.

But now I tell how the truck performes. I made the first drive with 12 cells, GP3300 P/M and bowtie tires with 23mm wabash wheels. The gearing was 12/51. It wheeliet in first gear! The top speed was not so high. Because the truck didn't shift to second gear.

The second and third run was also with the same setup mentioned above. I tuned the gearbox. So the truck was now shifting!. It didn't wheeliet anymore. But the top speed was higher! The truck handles really well. Even if I make a full turn at full speed, the truck doesnt came off the ground. It turn really well.

The fourth run I drive with the new pro-line jaco, foam tires. These tires are 60 gram ligther (200 gram) than the bowtie with wabash wheels! (260 gram). So I save 240 grams! The truck has got lots of grip with the foamies! Also it drives a little bit harder.

Today I will drive with 14, GP3300P/M cells. Maybe I will make a video. But I am sure I will tell you how it performs!

Let me know what you think of my truck!

RC-Monster Mike 12.04.2005 11:46 AM

Nice work Jasper! Adding cells will surely have a dramatic effect on performance. Let us know how you like it with the added voltage.

Dagger Thrasher 12.05.2005 11:02 AM

Nice Savage! I like the job you did on de-anodizing those parts especially, looks really smart. :D That beast is gonna seriously MOVE once you get some more cells in there...any chance of a vid? :)

mack 12.05.2005 12:11 PM

Hi there jasper nice looking truck indeed:cool:
where in holland do you life.
I'am living in Alkmaar and also building my e savage.
Good luck whit the truck;)

Jasper 12.05.2005 12:12 PM

Thank you for the compliments.

Mack, I live in Duiven, that is near by Arnhem. Good to hear that you are also building an BL savage! It is really worth it! Give me your MSN, so we can chat!

I drove the savage today on 14 cells. The speed was now better! The runtime was 10-15 minutes. This is a really nice speed for bashing in the skating park. But for the street I need a little bit more speed. So I can go with 16 cells. Or gear this thing up. Because the motor and esc are far less from hand-warm. When you hit full throttle you can hear the massive RPM!

The handling is also great with the foamies. The truck doesn't wheelie at all, all the power is transferd to the wheels! Also the steering is very good. The truck didn't came off the ground in turns.

The video will be on a skate park! It will be online soon!

Here is the video!

There is a little smoke because there are some kids playing with a sort of firework. That is typicely Hollands and hard to explain.

Have fun and let me know what you think of the video!

mack 12.11.2005 06:06 PM

Nice vid :D were you driving the 2 speed?

Jasper 12.12.2005 07:11 AM

Thanx mack.

Yes, I was driving the 2speed. You cannot hear the shifting because of the music.

I made some progress on my truck.

The 2mm L motormount is replaced by a 6mm thick aluminium plate.
