Big big Feigao
Just saw this on another forum and haven't seen it posted here yet:

Wow, Kinda pricey though....
|
Basically a kb 45 with a 5mm shaft and std bolt pattern...

Am I correct in assuming that this motor would be approximately equivalent to 70mm Medusa in terms of power? Damn that can is fat.

Still, because it is feigao, there's no doubt in my mind that you would have to go way down in cell count or get a super, super low kv version in order to get temps within range of a dinky Novak motor that is properly geared. And by the time you do that, surely it it will less power than the novak motor. This is the case with most feigao motors ive tried. But you never know. Maybe the 580 feigao motors are big enough so that way below its recommended voltage input, it will not overheat under the conditions that 1506 size neus typically handle.
|
Most likely for the boat guys. With water cooling feigaos never get hot and can put out some serious watts. Still ineffecient, but a damn good value. Boat racers do 3-5min heats so no real issue.
|
Has anybody heard anything about this motor? The KB45-10XL in my XLB gave up when some of the windings came apart (no rotor damage/failure, the wires just came loose and were shredded by the rotor). Presently I am looking at the Feigao 580-8L (1649 kv) for my XLB on 6s 7400mah 20C Lipo.
Unless you guys think I should just stick with the Medusa 36-80-1600 at $25 more? |
id go with the medusa you know itll perform well, and i thought someone had found that these motor werent up to snuff on some UK forums....i dont remember perfectly.

I'm with the Linc on this one. Seems like the only good use for these feigaos are for boats. You have 70 degree water cooling the can and they can run forever. Or if you are like me you add a bunch of fans and a heatsink to keep it cool on a truck. The KB motors have the same issues even when you go 6S and low KV and they are bigger than this thing. Pretty much its any inefficient motor without any type of cooling just isnt going to work for the long haul in a truck unless you are going to do some major mods to keep it cool.
Its funny because I've read over the on the boating forums, when the boats stop the feigaos start to heat up cause of all the heat inside that transfers to the outside can without the cool water flowing over it. A lot of people make that point that you need to check the inside temps and that it can destroy these things, but the fans and/or water keep the can temps from going thermal overboard and the motors from overheating. I think Neil says it best "Spinnig toast of death". |
Guess Medusa 36-80 it is. It's just that the mount I made for the XLB readily accepts motors with 4mm screws and a 30mm bolt pattern. And Mike doesn't currently have the 36-80-1600 in stock .
Funny thing is, I'm getting a 36-80-1100 HOT in my Savage on 8s 3700. Granted it's geared for almost 50mph but still. The LT-10s ESC hardly heats up. EDIT: Another viable option will be the CC Neu 1520 1500 kv, when it comes out. |
Yeah, the 1520 motors would probably be best.
