Ofna Ultra GTP - Rev 2.
After revision 1 of my "high speed" GTP failed, I decided to redesign it. 10s was just too darn fast and uncontrollable. The two speed setup was cool, but I missed having reverse. Plain and simple; I didn't have much fun with it.
As far as components go, just the typical fare: > Mike's new 5s 5Ah lipos. > Neu 1512/2.5d motor. Using Mike's font motor spacer plate (mainly to save the threads on the motor). I made a rear cover out of plastic and heatshrunk it in place. > I still don't think the MMM is smooth enough, so I opted for another Quark 125B. I did the "internal thermal mod" and added two 330uF/35v caps. Since the chassis top plate is aluminum, I am using that for additional heatsinking; works pretty good too! I really love this ESC - smooth as silk. Too bad they're so darn expensive, don't do 6s well, support sucks, and they do tend to run warm. The ZIP tie on the ESC is not really needed, it's just there as a safety net in case the thermal epoxy lets go... > DimensionEngineering ParkBEC. > RCMonster battery tray. Had to modify the spacer part of the tray so it sit's a little more over the mudguard to give the spur some room. > I used the same receiver box idea I used with my MBX5/CORR project (if it works, stick with it). The BEC sits in an aluminum "shield" to prevent any stray noise. > 51 Ofna spur on the single speed setup. 16T to 18T pinions for speeds from ~45-50mph depending on how fast I wanna go. And for pics: http://scriptasylum.com/bl_conversio...ragtp_v2_1.jpg http://scriptasylum.com/bl_conversio...ragtp_v2_2.jpg http://scriptasylum.com/bl_conversio...ragtp_v2_3.jpg http://scriptasylum.com/bl_conversio...ragtp_v2_4.jpg http://scriptasylum.com/bl_conversio...ragtp_v2_5.jpg Anyway, nothing special. Just wanted to share... |
its perfect man, so clean and nice, want to part with it come early spring, PM me 1st !!!
|
Nice to see someone else still running a quark, I got two 125's and a 80. Nice build there
|
So clean. I miss clean RC's. Let's get some results from this rig!
|
Very nice build man. It looks like it came from the factory.

Nice work. What are you gonna do about a body? |
that's sweet, it does look totally factory. i hope you will have fun with it now

Very clean build. Makes me even more eager to begin my DM-1 spec build. All of the parts have arrived but I am on travel and won't be able to begin building or posting pics for awhile. With my DM-1, I think I am going to also install a HPI DBox and some PVC slicks for some drifting action! Course I'll also have rubber slicks for speed runs.

Hey Brian,
Good to see that you have blown the dust off..... you will have alot of fun with it, especially without the 2 speed! |
Very nice.
Question: Why not reverse the battery pack so that you can cut off some of that extra wire? |
This revision is soooo nice and clean. Great job Brian.

Thanks guys!
jay: Not likely, but if I decide to offload it, I'll let you know. jr: Yeah, you really can't beat Quark for smoothness. When I get my MMM v3 replacement from Castle, I am seriously considering doing a swap for another nib Quark from someone. nitro: I'm using the same gray Porsche 911 body from the V1, but it's not pristine anymore (the exploding tire from V1 messed it up), so I didn't include it in a picture. Eventually, I want to get a Viper body. This thing has too much muscle to do otherwise. Speed: Yeah, the two speed setup is a PITA having to use mech brakes and no reverse. This won't be as fast, but that's ok. BL_RV0: Actually, I did shorted the power wires about 1" after that pic was taken. I want to keep the battery that way because I hate to put tight bends in the wire. This way, the wiring from the ESC to the battery flows naturally. These setups (MBX/CORR and this one) aren't current-heavy, so it should be fine. I played some more in the basement (I need a bigger basement!) and this thing is still sick power! I had to turn the EPA to 30% just to get some control in the small area. The dog, who usually chases my stuff around, is scared to come down the stairs. |
