do i really need a 2.4ghz for the mmm combo

hey guys. i should be getting my 2200kv combo through in the next week and a half or so to go in my e revo. the problem is, i am so low on money at the mo.
what will happen if i just stick with the tq for now? is anyone out there using this combination?how is it?

if you really think i should go 2.4, what do you think of the acoms technisport. how will that handle the setup

appreciate your help

e-rev project 12.11.2008 03:41 AM

my experience was that the tq glitched badly.:whip: that is just my experience though. i recently bought a nomadio and i must say 2.4ghz is wayyyyyy better than my mx-3 fm radio even

ohh this is a e-revo mmm medusa 5s setup

It's not like anythings going to explode if you try the tq before buying a 2.4ghz.

The traxxas radio tq won't work any good with brushless !! You will have range problems and glitching and run away's !!! it dosen't work even with their one velion system ! i have had a rustlervxl ! and a rustler with mm-setup and they did not work with the traxxas crap !

i run m the TQ in my bl pede without problems. i currently run a novak ESC and LRP 8.5t motor on a sxs 6cell 4000mah pack. i plan to go lipo so ill see what happens.

have to admit, ive also got a vxl pede, and have no issues with that using the tq.

i just have this horrible image in my head of turning on the esc after installing the mmm combo with the tq radio, and my e revo just going berserk and running straight into a brick wall.

tell me thats not going to happen

Actually, we run several test vehicles with the Traxxas AM system and the MMM ... just the range is a little short.

Not bad at all until you get near the range limit.

hm that's od ? i,ve had nothing but trouble's with the traxxas tx/rx and bl-set-ups!

The only thing I run a stock TQ system in is my son's BL Pede. Range seems ok - just as far and stable as when he ran brushed. I think it helps tremendously that the antenna is about as far from the motor wires as possible (ant in front, wires in back). That, and maybe the crystal combination helps...

This pede is running a MM 4600 system on 6 cells. Nothing special...

Dadx2mj 12.11.2008 01:02 PM

I've seen people use the TQ on Mambas with no issues and others who cant get past 50' with a TQ and Mamba set up. It seems really hit or miss whether it will work or not. My TQ worked fine with my MM 5700 set up as did my son's.

BrianG 12.11.2008 01:07 PM

Like I said, I think antenna placement and actual crystal frequencies are BIG factors.

i have also had massive problems from overhead power lines. in the country the tq kinda worked, in the city however it was a little scary and i even stripped gears from a glitch 30 ft away. so it could come down to where you live

i did do everything recommended with rx, and motor wire placement + a ferrite ring, with no added range in the city

the tq is ok if your dying to give the thing a run and dont want to drive any comps or long range bash areas. mine was bad when it was a nitro even, couldnt get maybe 60ft, thing would start darting about. last straw was when was bashing near a power substation(noisy air), maybe 200 feet from the substation. channel 3 decided to gradually jump into reverse with none of my input. may have been many things that casued it but the radio wouldnt have helped at all, causing me to destroy the output gears in my tranny.

dx3s here i come.

I ran a TQ2 with a Mamba Max for about a year, same thing. I got 20-30 yards of range out of it before it would glitch out. Went to a DX2 and it all went away. You don't have to have an expensive radio, but it helps.

the cable should already be on the E revo. there's a Y lead that joins the servos together and plugs into the receiver. Just swap the receivers and it'll be fine.
nope, there are 2 channel 1 ports on the stock reciever.

i got me one of these sets today. havent had a chance to use it yet, its bloody raining, but so far i am pleasantly surprised by the quality etc. thought it was going to be worse from what i had read

what i want to know now guys is, is it worth swapping the stock servo in my vxl stampede with one of the ones i got with this set, e.g the high torque one. and also, how do i tell which servo is the high torque one?
