What does does punch control actually do?
I mean not basically but actually. I was thinking that it slows the throttle sesponse kinda like rolling on the throttle slowly.
I ask cause I never used to use it before till i tried it today. I have my e revo on 4s with a medusa at 100% punch control and I love it. I its high but man it makes it so much more driveable. My motor and batteries run cooler also. Still pulls 20mph wheelies but its allot better. So anyway how does it work? I can gear for higher to speed and still be able to control it. |
From what I can tell you are right. It will keep your drivetrain happy and keep you from snapping cvd's, gears etc etc. It keeps the current spikes down on startup so its easier on the batteries. AS for how it works I will leave it up to the other guys, but its a great feature.

It ramps up the throttle response.... this can cause issues at the track if you bump it too high as makes it harder to time jumps etc

Thats What I kinda pictured and thats why I never used it. I Guess this setup has so much torque it really doesnt matter. Im at 100% and still rips the wheels off the ground if you nail.

Between the epa in your radio and playing w/the throttle curve, you can really fine tune your ride w/out readjusting the constantly adjusting the punch control

But with your epa adjusted, you can never use full throttle, which is a bad for efficiency. Increasing the voltage cutoff also reduces punch.

I think I remember a castle guy saying (and correct me if I'm wrong) that what the PC is actually doing is putting a cap on the maximum rate of change of the throttle position signal inside the esc.
So adjusting the throttle curve, you can still go zero to wide open as quick as you can pull the trigger (or as the esc allows it to happen on 0%PC anyway). But with high punch control, no matter what the throttle curve is set at, there is still a maximum rate of change of throttle position. |
I can only give my experiences with the punch control, I tryed it once, it made the truck more controlable (T4 with a mambamax 4600). But i later forgot i messed with it, I remembered it running better and thought i had demagged the motor, I was updating it and saw it was at 75%, reset it to off and the motor came back. I use the curve for throttle adjustments from now on, unless you have a wax paper slick track, you really don't need to use the punch. Throttle finger gets better with practice, leave it off is my opinion
