Bl Wk

For those of you who don't know that means "Brushless Wheely King" lol. Yup, I'm that guy turning a crawler into a speed demon. My budget might be tighter than I thought and i will have more projects to spend on. I'm shooting for the Chassis Only kit and will be adding beadlocks, body, extension kit, and any other parts that you guys suggest. For a power plant, I'd like to be able to do rolling (5 mph) backflips. I was thinking an MM 5700kv on 3s would do this but then I found a 14XL for sale cheap. Now I'm wondering what I'll break (and how often) with the MM ESC, 14XL and 4s pushing this thing around  Also, anyone have input on these?http://www.hobbywing.com/english/Art...?ArticleID=409

Thanks!

A 14xl is way too low kv to run on 4s, 8s is more like what that motor needs. You do not need anything more the cc motor, maybe the traxxas vxl motor if you plan to run 4s.

Personally I would go with the 4600/mm setup on 3s lipo. Simple, easy to use, should have good temps, and will not require any mods to the esc to run correctly. You could also go with the velineon system from taxxas, but it does not offer the pc compatability. A cheaper esc would be the sidewinder, but used MM systems go for cheap...

Why not a s can feigao or kd36 paired with a sidewinder on 3s?

pedeboi364 12.23.2008 10:27 PM

Sidewinder won't do 3s... so from what i hear this thing is pretty light? I'm liking the 5700MM combo on 3s for now. Where are good places to get hop-ups from??? Thanks!!

BL_RV0 12.23.2008 10:28 PM

Sidewinder does 3s fine by my testing. 5700 is too fast for 3s. You would want about 3000-4000kv for 3s. A medusa 36-50-3300 would be great.

MM 5700 or 4600 will be great with a 4 cell! I run a 4s will with my 5700kv setup and it's alot of power! I used to use a 3s and that was 100% controllable, but with the 4s anything over 75% throttle will result in torque steer in my tc4. Just make sure you have a fan+heatsink on motor and esc.

lol 'too fast' all i need is a quality hop up supplier now!!!

Sidewinder will do 3s. Just that castle does not reccomend it with the 5700 motor. Says that 3s with the 4600 is fine though. But you know warranties are meant to be broken....

pedeboi364 12.24.2008 12:21 PM

cool, thnx. Running m2ks and pro line beadlocks and the 4600 on 2s vs. 5700 on 2s what speeds can I expect?? Anyone know where I can hop this thing up to the moon?? Thanks!

BL_RV0 12.24.2008 12:37 PM

FWIW: I got 52mph out of a sidewinder 5700 on 2s geared 23/86 in a rustler.

The sidewinder on 3s is doable as long as you gear down low enough to take some of the load off the motor (and will reduce current). Basically getting power via rpms instead of torque. But, I would opt for a 4600, or better yet, a Medusa 36-50-3300 motor on 3s. If you want to go 4s, the MM and Medusa 36-50-2200 make a nice combo, just need an external BEC. Actually, I'd run an external BEC on 3s too.

OK, now I'm sayin screw castle, novak, and LRP. I want the VXL ESC and the most powerful motor I can get. The VXL does 200a, will this hurt my lipos?? What turn should I shoot for?? I'm looking at 3.5-6 turns motors in Tekin, Team Orion, AE, and Traxxas.

BL_RV0 12.24.2008 01:31 PM

Why?

pedeboi364 12.24.2008 01:38 PM

Those are the bl components I own, and see that they are weak. Anyways, how good is strc stuff???

If he doesnt mind sacraficing adjustability for capability then I say got for it.
