Weak link in side by side pack's?
I'm chargeing my small fleet of side by side pack's at the moment, and I just noticed that some silver bar's get warmer than the cell's itself. Now as an electrician I know resistance ~ heat, so is it possible the solder joint's on that bar are bad?
The pack's are Corally 3rd generation race spec matched gp3300's(whateverthehellthatmeans) charged on a millenium pro at 4 amp's. They got heatshrink around them. |
The bars on my batts don't heat up when I charge the packs. They only get warm from the batts, but they are never warmer than the cells.
Something must be wrong there. Did you check with a temp gauge? Is there solder visible, or is it some kind of spot welding? |

I solderd the pack's myself. Here is a pic with the heatshrink removed;
Don't got a temp gun yet, but I can feel it's slightly warmer than the cell's next to it. |
Perhaps there is too much tin between the bars and the pack.. The trick is to get as little tin as possible between the bar and the cell

No not much between the cell and bar's. The strange thing is that I just noticed this. Could be cause the pack's are sitting?(haven't used them since sept, keep charg/discharging them). Mayb a few time's cycling could fix it?
