My Losi 8T Tekno Conv.-Modified for low CG
Hi all,
I just finish my second bashing on my newly built Tekno Losi 8ight-T, I love it so much and think I should share some with you. The idea is to achive lowest possible CG. Major modification is the Lipos' layout. Two 6S 25C 2.6Ah LiPo packs are layed in line at left side, right above the chassis, no tall battery in a small tray. To do this I customized a fiberglass epoxy board to make a long battery deck. Radio box, mechanical brakes and clutch are left unused. Tekno's design put the ESC on left-front side, results in unacceptablly long motor wires. I moved my MMM to the right, it was inserted between the motor and receiver, just a perfect fit, like it was originally designed that way. :yipi:(it's where brake servo locates in Tekno's design) The Two 6S 2.6Ah battery was connected in parallel to get a 5.2Ah capacity, while lowering current stress on each wire by 1/2 and heat generated to 1/4. Does the CG look low? :gasp: http://bbs.rcfans.com/attachments/da...Jndp8rgLik.jpg "CVD condom" http://bbs.rcfans.com/attachments/da...UgtkXhxfiB.jpg fiberglass epoxy battery deck http://bbs.rcfans.com/attachments/da...nPhvJmcicz.jpg http://bbs.rcfans.com/attachments/da...NwtDS9K96b.jpg http://bbs.rcfans.com/attachments/da...mlE4BUS8GH.jpg http://bbs.rcfans.com/attachments/da...dwVGsrc681.jpg http://bbs.rcfans.com/attachments/da...ZHgusmLCzy.jpg |
Now I have switched to this motor.

Very nice!

Very Nice
Great job on the the mods....and thank you for posting very nice photos that show the detail of your handy work. Be sure to protect your batteries!

What did you do to achieve the nice low stance...looks sweet. How do you run 12s on a MMM 2200?? Very cool rig.

He is running them in parallel. |
Okay...Im learning so bear with me. If in parallel it makes it a 6s and it will have just twice the capacity not actually make it 12s??

If he ran in a series he would have 12s 2600mAh. |
Thanks hoov...Im getting it now.

Yes I run the two batteries in parallel to get a 6S 5.2Ah 25C LiPo. This config killed my first MMM V2, my seconde V2 survived after updated to firmware V1.2.
Major problem of my mod is a difficulty to change the batteries. To securely fasten the LiPos I use a combination of Velcro and bolts, when change batteries I have to unscrew the six nylon lock nuts, not as convinient as original velcro-only setup, but is obviously much tougher. The good side is, the 22.2V*5.2Ah=115Wh energy lasts at least half hour, so not that often does the LiPo need to be changed. |
Can't you use a thicker material for the bottom part so you can cut channels for the straps to go through? This way, you can remove the clamps.

http://bbs.rcfans.com/attachments/da...zPS33aa63e.jpg Problem here is my deck has no side walls, without strong hold down force the batteries will slip back and forth during running and jumping, hit the steering post etc. Maybe I need Mike to make me a custom CNC machined battery tray. |
I think a aluminum machined tray would be alot of weight to an already pretty heavy side of the buggy wouldnt you say? Maybe some kind of lighter composite would be better suited.

You can use a piece of "U" channel aluminum or plastic bracket so you can have sidewalls.
