Too many topspeed runs?

My 9L/9918 14 cell powered Emaxx is bashed once a week, then a topspeed runner at least twice a week after tweeking and experimenting with gears,wheel/tire combos and such. This has been going on for about 2 months.I bash with 65/15 gears and topspeed with 65/18.Topspeed runs are usually 4 passes,up and back twice.Another RCer saw me and commented that this amount of bashing AND topspeeding sounded like alot of wear and tear on the motor.Weather I'm bashing or topspeeding the speedcontroller stays cool the motor gets warm to barely hot,but never too hot to touch. Is this an issue or no big deal?

You will probably be old by the time you wear out the motor. especially since you aren't getting it hot. If you push the motor beyond 200 degrees on a regular basis, the magnet will slowly wear out, but otherwise you have no worries. The other user probably runs the "other" kind of motor and thinks you have to turn the comm or something!

too hot

one thing you might wanna consider is one of them on board temp sensors - i run one on my e-maxx - i have the one from venom - it is fairly inexpensive - and it records the highest temp - so you know when and how hot your running - just something to think about....:)

Because I own 2 trucks I'd like to get a handheld temp gauge like the ones used for nitro motors. Will these work fine with electric motors?

Yep. that is what I use. The venom ins nice because it is always there and can tell you the hottest temp the motor reached, but I use the temp gun method myself (I like everyhting as light as possible, so I don't want to drag around an extra 3 ounces!).
